hehe....This is used for electrical power generation. You might be able to get to the top, but when you do your gonna get a bit crispy.

but being 3K's of glass on the ground on a very hot day the hit coming off the glass might effect ya chute

When they finally build it, that thing's going to have some very 'interesting' airflow around it....

considering you're using the 7km diameter glass surface to heat the air under it and 'channel' the flow of hot air up the central tunnel, where the airflow drives some fans/turbines and then finally this hot air comes out the top of the tunnel, right where your highest exit would be....

now you have hot air from above the glass surface too and then something interesting is bound to happen outside the edge of the glass area too due to the colder surface surrounding the whole structure....

I thought someone was looking at building one of these in the desert in South Africa some time ago.

I wonder what the airflow up that central tunnel will be like....

with any luck it would be enough to blow a jumper upwards if they're under some sort of ZP round that's almost the size of the tunnel....

When is a BASE jumper FINALLY going just bite the bullet and build a friggin' 1500' antenna for us all to jump? Dig deep, Mr. Deep Pockets BASE Jumper. You know you're out there....!!! Rob a bank, play the lottery, sell your sperm to the sperm bank...just do what it takes to get me that legal ride to the top. I'll even PAY for it!

When I hit the lottery, I won't stop at 1500ft. It'll be the worlds tallest stucture and then some.. Of course it won't be in the states. It'll be on my own private island where no lawsuits can touch me and the FAA has no authority.

WHAT?!?! The only reason 1500 is not good enough is because you already have a nice 'private' one like that on your 'own little island' HA, now all we gotta do is get that late model white Ford pick up,.....some hats.....and its ON!!

Please build a 1200' free-stander with a 6 person 1 minute elevator and a big railing-less deck up top.

A bare minimum tower (1000' +) with no transmission equipment and just minimal legal requirements. (lights, surveys, faa crap) is in the millions. Also, private property or not you'll never be able to build a tall tower without the FAA's involvement.

The t.v station I work for purchased a couple new towers. They're around 900 'w/elevators and cost just over $15,000,000 Of course this covers alot of transmission equipment and support that we wouldn't need.

I would buy a 300fter NO lift(im lazy but to keep in shape the climb is ok,well atleast to 200ft,but a NICE platform at 150,200,250 and 300ft,now THAT would be life,i aint asking much so it MUST be cheap

I was quoted $5000 for a ~300' freestander. This didn't include disassembly, transportation and reassembly.

I've seen postings on towerdog listservs informing people of the existence of towers for tear-down. Basically, if you can take it down, you can have it. We'd need some land...

We have some industrious riggers and tower dogs among our ranks, I think. Community effort? Hell, we could sell tickets to people to come watch to pay for it.

P.S. My dream home is a 1/3 scale model of the Blankosphere... you'd be like the jetsons... Jane Jetson would help the kids don their rigs for school... stand on the hatch - poof! 2 sec. delay.. pitch.. land by the school bus stop. George dons his rig and lands by the Moeller Skycar. Doesn't hurt to dream. Can you imagine the ridiculous parties you could have with all of your BASE friends? Damn.. sounds like it's got bad idea written all over it.

P.P.S. I'm aware of the home built on a water tower structer.. not the same.

A jumper who hits the lottery should also investigate a smokestack. I've jumped a 1300' stack several times and it's a warm, protected ride to the top. Plus, object strikes would be pretty rare and you wouldn't get caught on the structure. WDI's thrown off the top of our stack will not hit the object, as the wind velocity increases around the circular structure in the same manner as the wind going over the top of an airplane wing. An 1800' stack with no guy wires would be sweet.

$5000 for the tower isn't bad. You can take it down in a day if you want to pay around $13000 for a 200 ton crane for 8 hours, not including the $2500 for a cheap tower crew for the day to set it in 20 foot sections on the ground for you. Then all you need is to rent a 18-20 ton boom truck to take those apart for a week, but then you can truck it anywhere you want and do it again after you find the right zoning for it and get the FAA to give you the OK to go over 200 feet. Did I mention the cost for the new foundation? Mike on e-bay has a good deal on the one he has for $30000, but I rather have the Huey UH-1 helicopter he has for $95000 on there to jump out of.

Just undo the guy wires
and blow up the supports and watch it fall
you will lose the first 10 feet max , big deal
then simply get a good welder to weld on a new base and off ya go
this way ya only pay for transport and assembly lol
and hope when it falls that it dont bend lol

i think the big problem will be to get the mony to maintan shuch a thing...Would BASE jumpers pay to get alowed to jump a 300ft legal A,as he/she simply just could jump a 1000ft or higher for free...

In DK it also would require a union to do this legal,which all jumpers had to be a member off.It could easily be made up for a 20$lifetime membership,and rules:

1. use only BASE gear
2.a minimum of jumps,if you want to jump it whith out a "instructor"in sight

Hey Cession, Here's a clip I took with my Sony Mavica of a 350' guyed tower I took down in Indiana in the matter you suggested, we used a chop saw to get it down.

Revised: clip was too large, maximun size allowed for attachment was 60 kb, clip was 583kb with killer audio, Sorry, I'll e-mail it if you want to check it out.

I have a similar clip, pulled off a TV newscast and copied from an old time jumper, of a nearly terminal tower coming down in a similar (but accidental) manner. I won't post it, because it is NSFW in the ultimate sense (there are multiple fatalities in the collapse (tower workers caught on the structure), all captured by the newscrew and broadcast to their nightly audience in the height of good taste).
