Publicising BASE footage
Hey guys, just curious as to why its a big no-no to publicise locations of base sites etc or to show vids/pics in the public domain yet there are vids out there like Fistful of F1-11 etc that show BASE jumps from well known buildings in Oz (as an eample) in broad daylight. From what I've been reading about it, this seems like a major fuck up as it can burn a site and also as vids like this are shown at DZs whuffos can view footage like this.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on it?

Cheers

Well considering the video in question (Fistful) was released by the ABA and is a very popular video among BASE/skydivers (and rightly so!Smile) it does'nt seem to be that much of a big deal with most people...

fist full of f1-11 rocks

ive watched it 2 weeks in a row at my dropzone now Angelic
the bit where they walk out to this observation deck of a building and jump off and the security is walking behind them saying "hey what are you doing get down from there" is an absolute crack up

It is my understanding that although some of the jumps on the aforementioned video are from high profile buildings, they are not regular objects and thus "burning" them is of little consequence. There was a similar discussion on the ABA site not long ago about the publication of a jump done from a high profile building currently under construction in the Sydney CBD. I believe that these are not viewed as protected local objects, just fleeting opportunities.

Wow, did one of these guys do you over or what??Laugh

Or is it just you didn't make the cut??Laugh

Seriously, its pretty obvious you've never been to an ABA video night...most skydivers have....much of the public has...

But to answer the thread question, its not polite to burn a building or site. No-one particularly likes getting busted...

That said, I'm yet to hear of anyone honestly getting done because of FFOF1-11.

If anything, more idiots with piss all respect and connections probably tried to scout sites from it.....and nearly got themselves busted....

Um, I think that's the point. Not that serious, active BASE jumpers will get hurt by it--but that novices with little or no experience will do so.

Re: [TomAiello] Publicising BASE footage
I have never been busted but have seen footage that a friend of mine sold and profited from on tv with me in it . It really pissed me off as another person was busted because of this video . I sued the person that sold the video and won as he did not have a signed release and forced the assholes that bought the video to never broadcast it again . My face was very clear in the video and could have fucked me over . If you want your face plastered all over the place go big baby , but for me and my crew that has NEVER been arrested we will stay in the shadows . This is the main reason we jump together and very rarely allow a new person into the group .
