my new gear just arrived and i am going to test jump the canopy at my dz out of student gear. my question is the best way to hook it up seeing as it's a velcro closed reactor4 with no pin? i am thinking the best way to get a feel for the canopy is to fly it with it's own pc, but where do i attach the pin and how????

You ought to be able to use a bridle from any non-collapsible skydiving PC, or the entire (collapsible) PC and bridle system.

Jumping the larger BASE PC (how big is it) with your skydiving rig isn't really recommended (there was a thread in gear and rigging a while back about why it probably doesn't matter, much, though. Check the thread from about the 6th or 8th post down.).

If you are putting a BASE canopy into a skydiving rig, the rig ought to have a bridle and PC. I'd recommend just using that.

The difference that the PC makes to the canopies flight is pretty minimal (i.e. I can tell the difference between no PC and a 48, but just barely).

much appreciated....my logic was just that the larger pc would affect flying characteristics (ever so slightly, but affect none the less)....will use non-collapsible from student rig.....

While we're on the subject, I too just bought a Flick. Hopefully my container will be here in time for BD, but one never knows, please hurry BR...lol So, what is the best way to pack the canopy in a skydiving container for BD, and for Hop-n-pops out of the plane. I want to get some test jumps on it before BD to get a feel fot it before having to stick it on the side of the river.

You can pack it pretty much however you want to. Since you're doing hop n pops, you could even use the mesh slider if you want. If you have a sail slider you should use that.

If you use your BASE packjob it'll give you a better idea of what to expect down the road on terminal BASE jumps.

A BASE parachute is still a parachute. Skydive it all you want.

Thanks, and my intention for hop and pops is to keep the mesh slider on, but how should I put it in the container? Regular D-bag and line stows, or use the tail pocket and just s-fold the canopy into the container? Sorry if these are dumb questions, but we all have to start somewhere.

Using tail pocket and BASE packing and S-folding (in five layers) into your skydiving rig would: !) give a very good idea of how your pack job is done properly or not; 2) train you to BASE pack, which is a very very good idea, which solution would take you to do your first BASE jump with your BASE packing after having already performed 10-20-30 BASE pack jobs, which give you a good sense of safety (you realize on your skin that you are really capable of BASE packing, and packing well indeed).

Pack in in a student rig, or other large rig. Try and find one big enough that you don't have to cram it in the main container.

Use a regular non collapsible Pilot chute. Sized 32 to 36 inches. Leave the BASE pilot chute on the ground.

ROLL THE NOSE!!! If you don't know how, find some one who used to jump a Falcon or a Raven and have then teach you to roll 3 and 3 (they will know what you mean). Oh.. but don't stuff it inside the center cell. That's an old trick to stay away from.

The mesh slider should be fine. Be very careful to ensure your slider is at the top of the lines and against the Slider stops. Use direct slider control. Make sure to at least double wrap the indirect stow as close to the slider as you can get it.

I'd suggest using the tail pocket rather than a D-bag. But you can use the D-bag if you wish.

The parachute is big and is designed to open quickly. Be prepared and brace yourself. Generally it's only a Quick opening and shouldn't SLAM you but be prepared in case it does.

i have 2 jumps in my Fox in student gear. i simply used the canopy and the mesh slider.then took the bag and springloaded pc from the student gear packed it as a regular slider up BASE hoped and poped,felt just like a reserve opening.flew it down normaly(ie i tested its stall point and so on).
i had no problem what so ever.

Will NOT recomend more than hop n pop whith a mesh slider...
