NPS Changing Their Tune?
I heard a rumor from another BASE jumper friend that the NPS is under new leadership and is now going to experiment once again with issuing limited "aerial delivery" permits. He said that they were going to start with LP to see how well it goes on a small scale before branching out to the other areas.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

I heard the same.

I'm going to ask around and see what's up. The next Bday meeting is Aug. 20th, so I'll fire off a few questions to the NPS.

LP is ideal for the expansion of BASE beyond Bday.

There are a lot of people trying to make this happen, by the way.....

As an interesting aside, if this is indeed true, this would very closely resemble the proposal that Carl & Jean Boenish laid out in one of the early "Baseline" magazines.

on a somewhat related note, i heard yesterday of a plan to turn a good bit of eastern WA's public land into NP land. While this may seem like a great idea to many (non-BASE jumpers) it could very well 'take away' use of that land given the NPS stance.

i'm trying to find out more info on exact areas (to see what might be affected) and how when the meetings are scheduled. It might be a good opportunity to get the "fair use" issue in the public eye.

I'll bite, and forgive me if I'm asking people to name names, but what is LP?

That takes all the fun out of it . The get away with the park ranger on your ass is as much fun as the jump sometimes .Tongue

Running from rangers is fun until:

A. You get caught, or
B. You get enough jumps to realize that it ain't fun anymore.

I think most agree that legal jumps are safer and more fun.

Just kidding . I will look you up next time I am in Clarksburg .

Cool. I guess you know the area.

I've got a nice local 300' freestander, outside climb, with 6" long bolts that stick out of the corner angle iron for steps. When someone jumps, the top sways 6". Yippee!

I worked as a derrickman offshore for several years and came to love climbing structures. I have only 30 dkydives, but BASE sounds like the thing for me.

I may have to rob a bank to afford it though. Are there any banks on the top floors of tall buildings?
