Absolutely.
What I meant to say was if you can't take the FJC, you should find a good mentor to teach you the ropes. The FJC isn't a substitute for a mentor, in fact, if you go to the Vertigo, CR, BR sites they'll tell you the training doesn't end there.
One nice benefit of a FJC is that it helps you establish a network if you don't have one already. Then when you go home, hopefully you'll have a contact to continue learning with.
But like others have said, some folks don't have the luxury or having a qualified mentor close by. This makes things more difficult (and dangerous). And that's where an FJC is particularly invaluable.
