I once actually convinced someone that I had bailed out of an aircraft that was going down. They stood there looking confused and asking if we needed to call 911 until I ran off.

I'm certain this was one was just a bad spot on a night jump load at the DZ. Had to be.

I jumped a building under construction a bunch, and one time two off-duty officers came out of a parking garage near the LZ. They yelled over to me so I didn't flee (plus my car was in view).

They asked me if I jumped off the building and I replied "No, I jumped out of a friends powered parachute and got blown way off course. I was supposed to land on the other side of [busy highway]. "

They asked why they heard my parachute opening so I said "this grass where I landed is the only safe spot I could find to land, and I had to fly awfully close to these buildings. The turbulence caused my chute to collapse, so I guess you heard it re-inflating."

I acted worried for my friends safety and mentioned needing to get back to my group. They said 'If you have freinds up on that building tell em if they jump we'll arrest them"

I walked away down the street and called my buddies (they watched it all go down from the roof)
They static-lined the other side of the building and landed on a parking garage not long after.
