IBEX.UL
Has anybody flown the IBEX.UL? Any experience to share?

From what I've read, the first version was quite "swoopy" and aggressive. Is this the case with the new one as well?
My understanding is that the .UL version is based on a Hayduke, so can be quite different that the previous one.

Re: [skow] IBEX.UL
my understanding is they took the Hayduke and Outlaw canopy characteristics to make the IBEX. Hybrid canopy using both design features

Re: [W_Heisenberg] IBEX.UL
Note sure about hybrid - e.g. it doesn't have vents, SLATs, float-flaps etc.

However it is based on Hayduke. I talked with Matt and my understanding is that it's Hayduke without all those features mentioned earlier.

I'm wondering though, how does is actually fly and open

Re: [skow] IBEX.UL
I don’t believe there are any similarities between the outlaw and the IBEXul unless you credit the staggered brake lines to the Outlaw although they are now in every Squirrel canopy. From what I understand the profile is very similar to the Hayduke but then no vents or slats and slightly less ZP on the nose to lower bulk/weight. I haven’t flown an original Ibex so I can’t compare to that but I have around 40 jumps on my IBEXul and it flys very similar to my Hayduke. Going off feel (jumping same jump back to back Hayduke vs IBEXul in same conditions) the IBEXul felt like it had a slightly better glide and flare but the difference was pretty minuscule. It sinks in well too. All my openings have been nice and comfy and mostly on-heading (as long as my body position was) but it does take a bit longer to inflate over the Hayduke as you’d expect from an unvented canopy.

I feel like it has great performance but isn’t as “swoopy” as people made the original Ibex out to be. It feels like a safe fun canopy that goes fast if you want it to but also won’t dive you aggressively into the ground with a tension knot or linetwists.

Re: [DFR] IBEX.UL
so you basically you just added 545 words to something I explained. How its a combo of 2 canopies.
But some people love to hear themselves talk

I guess you didn’t read my reply. It would be like if someone asked what a cheese pizza is like and you said it’s like a burrito crossed with a pepperoni pizza and I was like nah, it’s more like a pepperoni pizza without the pepperoni.

The Ibex is not a cross between the Outlaw and Hayduke. It’s a stripped down Hayduke without the extra weight adding features.

But some people love to comment on stuff they don’t know about

Re: [DFR] IBEX.UL
Awesome! Thanks for a brilliant answer.

I really loved how Hayduke flies (although I only had made one jump on it) so I guess Ibex.UL is the way to go!

How about the slider, is it like in Hayduke so a small mesh with crossed tapes or like in Outlaw?
Shortcut
Re: [skow] IBEX.UL
yeah same style as Hayduke slider. I have the small mesh on both. I haven’t seen the slow slider for an IBEXul but I assume it’s the same style as Hayduke.

Give him a break mate, Daniel still has his nose rammed up sqrl ass for sponsorship and trying to make a name for himself. He rode on a short bus for school and still does!

I think you meant give 'you' a break.

I've not met Daniel, but he's my kind of jumper.
(we both enjoy opening backcounty alpine wingsuit jumps)

sponsorship aside, I respect his experiences and the good, descriptive information he shares.

I don't know you either but you seem to have a stick up your ass.

Re: [skow] IBEX.UL
Are the lines Spectra or Dacron (or is either an option)?
Shortcut
Re: [TomAiello] IBEX.UL
At first there was only option for spectra. I asked if it's possible to get it with dacron lines and they agreed.

Also, apparently others have been asking as well, as Mike said they will add both options to the website

Re: [skow] IBEX.UL
does it open faster and increase heading performance? I like all the canopies that do that..
Shortcut
Re: [try2live] IBEX.UL
If you mean dacron lines, then not really. The main reason why I want them is that they are more strechy - meaning that during opening they get a bit of the load, whereas spectra is stiff and all the load goes to your spine :)

I'm also guessing that dacron is not as "slippery" as spectra, so I would expect canopy with dacron lines to open slightly slower in the second phase when slider is descending.
However this is just my guess, maybe somebody else could confirm or disconfirm?

That is the concept.
