Re: [iranianjumper] Tower (KL Tower)
We consider KL Tower a B, even though it's kind of a pussy B due to the overhang and the secured landing area because of the boogie. We have issued the BASE numbers since Jean gave them to us at BASE # 540 and we have always allowed it to be a B. Funny, after each year, we usually do get a few new BASE numbers after KL event. Not quite the same as sneaking around late at night on an illegal building downtown in a big city to get your B, (which is super rewarding as soon as you escape). My very first BASE jump on Jan. 1, 1982 about 11:00 PM was with my twin brother Randy, (BASE 36), off a 1000 foot Building in downtown Houston. We had skydived for 10 years of mostly relative work and in those days, partying as well and had at least 1200 jumps by then. Anyway, we sat in a downtown Houston bar and watched our Alma Mater, University of Iowa get beat 28 to 0 in the Rose Bowl by the Washington Huskies. After the 3rd Scotch and the Rose Bowl loss, I said to Randy, "I hope we do better than Iowa did tonight". We left, found the lower construction entrance, climbed 75 stories to the top, spent 15 minutes taking snapshots at night, put our gear on and he climbed on the ledge and went. Me, a minute later. Scared to death but the old Strato Star#106 opened slider down like a canon after a nice solid 4 and I was hooked on BASE jumping. No rush like a downtown building, but, KL does qualify.
