How to keep your shit locked down
Free class in Salt Lake City, Thursday June 20th, 7pm, at 801 Labs:

How to protect information on your hard drive using encryption.

Why is this important to BASE jumpers? Let me count the ways:
1. The U.S. legal system has prosecuted BASE jumpers using incriminating evidence found on their laptops.
2. Law enforcement officers have illegally accessed devices and facebook accounts after seizing electronic devices, and they've found information on exit points and other jumpers by doing so.
3. BASE jumpers travel internationally and their devices may be subject to inspection at border crossings.
4. There are many privacy-oriented people in the BASE community
5. Because, fuck the man

This is a strictly non-commercial event. All are welcome.

Many people would be stoked if you could do a webcast or simply put video online.

Is this going to be about file/disk encryption on Windows only? I run Centos 7 on everything including my laptop.

The talk is linux-centric but with plenty of good stuff for Windows and Mac users. The basic concepts are pretty universal, the specific tools vary by operating system. The goal is for nearly anyone to be able to go home afterwards and start encrypting their data.

Talk was filmed, I'll PM you the link once it's up (gimme a few days). If anyone else wants it, feel free to ask.

In the meantime, here's another reason to lock your shit down coming into the US. God forbid border patrol finds text messages about your illegal BASE jumps and drugs, they might just take you out back and shoot you.

A future talk will cover how to backup your android phone to the cloud, wipe it before crossing a border, and then restore it once you are through. It's stupid easy to do.
