Hi!
Im not happy with my deep brakes and want to dial them in. The problem is that I live far from any safe object and can't bring my sewing machine with me and don't really trust my sewing skills to bartack them on by hand.

I remember from when I skydived some old crew-dog showed me a way to set the brakes with a release knot.
You just tied in, pulled your brakes like regular and the knot was gone.
Do anyone remember how to do this and could upload some pictures of it?

You don't have to bring your sewing machine with you when you travel, in order to successfully tune your brakes on a trip.

Seek out a BASE rigger or instructor on how to do this properly, and it will make more sense. I don't qualify. But you needn't bar tack your test settings in between each test jump anyway, and once you get a satisfactory setting just secure it with a few temporary hand-stitches of E thread, then bar tack it properly when you get home.

Hope that helps a little bit... I know that's not the question you asked but I've never heard of anyone using a knot method and a lot of problems come to mind. Good luck.
