El Potrero/Mexican locals
I'm going to spend a couple weeks in Mexico after Christmas travelling around and was wondering if there were any locals around. We will be in El Potrero for a few days doing some climbing and don't want to do anything that might upset anyone.

No locals anymore, both are no longer with us. Certainly nobody to upset. Some folks have climbed and jumped a few things in the Potrero proper. Huasteca Canyon outside of Monterrey has a wingsuit jump from a via-ferrata that looks cool. Also LaPopa has an insane 1,600' very obvious exit. Both are day trips. Good luck, be safe.

edit to add- in the picture of La Popa, the cliff is 1,600', the cone leading up to the base of the cliff makes it substantially taller.

If you go to La Popa, be sure to stop by and see Ezekiel. He owns the landing area, and lives there in a stone house along the access road, so it's nice to gain his blessing.
He mostly only speaks spanish, and loves gifts such as beer / canned foods etc... He only has a donkey, so he doesnt get to town much.
He likes to watch the videos and share in a celebratory beer after the jump too!

Also,
If you go further south, there is a town called Santiago, which you use to access Cienega de Gonzalez. This is near an entrance to upper Huasteca's...
There are some wingsuit jumps (2500') along the north side of the ridge, but you must fly into another valley and hike the riverside all the way back to the mouth of the canyon. It takes about 2 hours hiking back.
That place is nice cause you can rent some cabins right there and do a couple jumps a day.

Thanks for the tips and directions. I'm not at the WS base level yet so I'll stick to something more aligned with my experience. Good to know I won't upset anyone.

Edited: I hope it didn't sound like I was happy anyone is gone :/

The jumps mentioned above can all be done without a wingsuit as well..

Looks like Monterrey is on the agenda too.
