Bridge day 2018
Are they doing fingerprints and proctology exams at bridge day this year? All I saw was a need for name, dob, and email. Who gets the info, and how are they going to use it? I was thinking about going again, but not if the jumpers are going to be treated like guano.

There won't be any background checks or finger print scans. Registration opens July 1st at http://www.jumpbridgeday.com. The event organizers get the information so they can communicate with jumpers and print badges.

Slightly off topic but i saw this event was compared to China events for finger print scanning a lot in the linked thread. China now scans all fingerprints of all foreign entries. For you Math geeks out there thats 5 times as many fingers. Wow! Not that im saying finger printing for base events is cool, but if you go to china its gonna happen

Who's organizing the bridge day this year? And what is the process for gear checking, pre jump briefing and jump order? There is almost no info on the webpage. Also, I'd like a little assurance that my info isn't being added to a basejumper park ranger data base, although that seems more than a bit naive.

Disney has been doing it for years (just 1 finger) for park entry as part of ‘ticket fraud / re-use prevention’, more recently including children / toddlers ages 3-9...

Same happens to all non US citizens entering the USA.
All fingers and thumbs to enter the Land of the Free.
Actually US immigration require more info and is way less streamlined than China. #keepingyallsafe😂

Says Saturday October 21 on the website. Pretty sure Saturday falls on October 20th this year.

Bridge Day jump operations are organized by Marcus Ellison. Staff members are organized by me (Gregor Weeks). Gear checks are done by riggers or BASE jumpers with at least 100 BASE jumps, most of whom have been checking gear at Bridge Day for several years or more. Gear checks are required at check in and before jumping. Jump order is the order in which you arrive to jump.

Is there a block of rooms reserved for base jumpers at the Holiday Lodge?

All of that paranoia shit is tired and worn out. The event is run by B.A.S.E. jumpers. It’s very laid back and a lot of fun.

Re: [gauleyguide] Bridge day 2018
It's not paranoia to be concerned about data privacy and how it can be used against you. I just was forced to upload a picture of my drivers license in order to register. Who gets to see that vital information, and how will they use it? If I had assurances that it was just the base jumpers using that info for who's jumping, and they deleted that after the event, that's fine. But if the national park rangers and other law enforcement agencies are using it to make a data base of base jumpers then that's a problem. I've never made an illegal jump, but say I was trying to get a job in a vegas casino, they might well have access to my info, and deny me the job based on profiling. No reason given. The bridge day event is run by the bridge day commission, and the base jumpers are just organizing the jumper safety and logistic end. So my question is, who gets to see our info, how will it be used, and what is being done to protect it? The last bridge day organizer fell on his sword over these issues. I'd like to see the new one have the same advocacy for base jumpers rights.

Its probably normal to have no illegal jumps with your numbers but someday you might want to jump an antenna, building or some of the big cliffs in the US eventually they get your info if you continue jumping

Ok, that was funny. But I'd still like to know who sees our info and what they do with it. Are the local police running background checks looking for "terrorists"? The natl park guys? Is it given to the chamber of commerce so they can send us gift baskets and thank us for bringing so many people to their town? Gregory, Marcus, what's the procedure?

No one forced you to upload a picture of your drivers license. In fact, if you actually did upload your drivers license, that is pretty dumb on your part. It’s not required to do so, who forced you to do that? You are only required to upload a picture of your face so it can be printed on your jump pass.

Let’s look at it this way, let’s suppose somewhere in the middle of who cares, police are called to a possible jumper off of the Paranoid Inn and Suites. The police arrive and don’t find a body, they’ll either dismiss it or look at security video. If they a person making a parachute jump off the hotel, I’m pretty sure they are not going to pull out a list of Bridge Day jumpers and say “Ah-Ha! That had to have been a jumper on this list, let’s go bring em all in for questioning!” “We’ll get to the bottom of this! Yes sir, the bottom of this!” “Those sons of bitches!” “Why I’ll ring everyone of those jumpers necks!” “Even if it it takes fifty years!” “Those gawd damn hippies with... with ... with those fucking magic backpacks!” “Let’s kill every gawd damn one of them!”

Listen to yourself.

You’re asking these questions AFTER you registered. AFTER you uploaded your drivers license.(still trying to figure out why you did that) There’s probably a reason why you haven’t made any illegal B.A.S.E. jumps, and you are showing everyone that reason right now.

Re: [gauleyguide] Bridge day 2018
I put in a scan of my drivers license because on the registration it says required photo ID. If that is just for the badge picture, then it would have been nice if they had said that. You didn't see the registration page until after it was open for jumpers. It seemed a better idea than using my passport, and i didn't think theyd accept a library card. I'm bringing up these issues after I registered because I had already decided to jump bridge day regardless. Now I have three questions other people that are thinking about going might have. Who sees my information, and what are they going to do with it? And for the registration picture, is that for the badge, or does it have to be an ID? And what kind of picture do you want? Gauley, if youre part of bridge day, maybe you know the answers. Otherwise Marcus and Gregory can maybe let me know. Or is this something I have to ask the bridge day commission?

Re: [Jubal] Bridge day 2018
Our liaison with the Bridge Day Commission was on vacation so she just got back to me today. The WV State Police get a list of name, address and DOB from all BASE jumpers, vendors, media, rappelers and staff each year. They do not get your picture. The picture is only used by the Bridge Day Commission to make badges. You do not need to upload a photo of your driver's license or any other ID. You do need to upload a photo of you. There aren't any guidelines for the photo other than it should just be you in the photo and you should be recognizable. It can be a cellphone selfie. The text on the registration page says "Required Photo ID." I can see why you were confused by that. I'll see if I can get in touch with the web guy to make it clearer.

Any other questions please feel free to post them here. I'll try to get answers as soon as I can.
