Tailgate on the slider?
What do you think about a tailgate on the slider? It looks like black death to me.

I think the loop on the trailing edge of a Slider
is designed to hold a rubber band (Not a tail-gate)
Direct-Control so the slider stays UP till Inflation.

Re: [GreenMachine] ha ha ha
My Outlaw came with a tailgate pre-installed in the loop.
I actually like the idea, not that I do much SU jumping but I use it the odd occasion I do.

Re: [GreenMachine] ha ha ha
It's definitely for a tailgate. The manufacturer pre-installs them.

I've used it for maybe 200 slider up jumps (mostly on one I did for myself more than 15 years ago). I think it's a better solution for promoting nose first inflation (when slider up) than simply using the tailgate and slider together (I also tried that out).

The slider itself is the most effective reefing device ever created for a parachute. Personally, I think that it works great. It generally seems to me that the tailgate (in either location) being used with the slider is a bit of a "solution in search of a problem", and personally I don't use it (either on the line or on the slider). But I also don't really see any problems with using it on the slider, so I don't really think it's black death either.

Oh Well
Guess I was wrong again.

What do you think the scenario is that this would kill you?

I think it's just gut level "if I don't need it, I don't want it" that comes from years of seeing weird unforeseen consequences from one "good idea" after another.

I can't speak for Space, but I tend to try out each new idea one at a time, make a hundred or so jumps on it, and then evaluate whether or not it really seemed to improve something about my system. If I can't pin down a definite improvement, I'll generally discard the idea and move on.

It's not that any specific thing is a bad idea in and of itself. It's that I can't foresee the possible interaction of the next 10 or 15 new ideas that get added to my gear, and I want to test them each out individually, and then keep using them (or not) individually on their own merits.

The chance of it hanging in the cascades preventing the slider from descending. Take care, space

If I remember correctly my outlaw (in current possession of nps) the gate is connected by a really thin piece of rubber band that would break in case of a hang up on the cascades which should not be possible since I only wrap the break lines.
I never used to use a slider gate or tape slider up but in the outlaw it’s just sitting there so I started using without any second thought of having a possible problem.
