First canopy size
Looking to order my first container and canopy. What’s the recommended size / loading for a new jumper for some one who is 65kgs.
Thanks Garry.

Re: [Garrythegoat] First canopy size
I'd recommend following "Ray's Rule."

Take your naked body weight in pounds: 143 pounds

Add 100: 243

Your normal canopy size: 240-ish

Your canopy size for bad/tight/high altitude landing areas: 260-ish

Your canopy size for wide open, grassy fields, if you may have to penetrate wind: 220-ish.

Where do you live? For a first canopy in most places, I'd say go for something in the 240-ish size rang.

Thanks for the info. I live in England and plan to jump in europe. Just need to find a fjc that runs in the winter as work all summer.

We run courses every month of the year, if you're willing to travel to the USA.

Are you looking at being primarily a slider up (big wall) jumper?

And you don't plan to jump in the UK?

I'd say probably the 240-ish sizes are going to be a good choice for you. I wouldn't go smaller because the odds are that you will do your first terminal jumps in either Italy or Norway, and landing out in either place you will be very glad for the extra fabric over your head.

But if you are thinking of doing urban jumps in the UK, bigger might serve you better.

Re: [Garrythegoat] First canopy size
If you buy a canopy form Atair remember that they measure the bottom skin which make their canopy be a size smaller than the American ones.

My weight is also around 65kg and I'm happy with mine 225Atair canopy, which measure 245 top skin.
