BASE Eiger Mushroom
Hi,

A couple of us are planning to jump Eiger Mushroom (experience: each has 100+ jumps including terminal walls). The following information would be much appreciated:

1. Recommendations on who we can reach out to, to act as guide for us on these jumps (hike etc.)
2. Where does one stay for the Eiger? LB or somewhere closer?
3. Recommendations for accommodation?
4. Weather wise is early to mid June a decent time for Eiger?
5. While we would like to Hike, would still be curious on what's the deal with the Heli option (Cost, logistics etc.)
6. Do we need a climbing harness to get onto the mushroom
7. Is a climbing harness needed for the vertical section on the hike that needs to be climbed
8. Is there anything else we should know or keep in mind when planning for this jump

thank you!

Cheers!
Ankur

Ask Douggs. He was able to arrange heli-ferry for some groups last year, and is the local who is most likely to get involved with setting stuff up for you.

I will not reply for what is not the jump:
- in June there is probably still snow on the access, and this year is very snowy, August is the best call
- if think helidrop request a professionnal insurance, like for a movie or an advertising
- if it's accessible and you are going to Horner or BaseCafé you will find some people to go with easily
- climbing harness is better than using the BASE harness for sure
- the vertical part can be done without a harness but only if you are used to climb a bit

Some people are going up there more often than me and will probably add things or correct what I just wrote.

I think Antoine got it right. Just to add few points to your list :
1. Recommendations on who we can reach out to, to act as guide for us on these jumps (hike etc.)
-> Contact any licensed mountain guide in the area and they will know the way and be able to guide you there. Or like Antoine said, on the high season you will find people in the Horner on daily basis who are going up there.

2. Where does one stay for the Eiger? LB or somewhere closer?
-> LB is fine, if you want to get some extra sleep and have a nice experience as well you can stay on the guesthouse on the Eigergletscher train station or in Kleine Scheidegg.

3. Recommendations for accommodation?
-> See above.

4. Weather wise is early to mid June a decent time for Eiger?
-> Like Antoine said, most likely not. Still a lot of snow and most likely not accessible. August is the best time of year.

5. While we would like to Hike, would still be curious on what's the deal
with the Heli option (Cost, logistics etc.)
-> Douggs would know.

6. Do we need a climbing harness to get onto the mushroom
-> It´s the best option, of course you can do with other rigging as well (sling through the hip rings + carabiner etc)

7. Is a climbing harness needed for the vertical section on the hike that
needs to be climbed
-> Not really but if you want to secure your self on the way then yes. The climbing section can also be hiked from the side if you guide knows the way. Again, if you hire a pro mountain guide he will help you, probably belay you there and ensure you get up it in safe manner.

8. Is there anything else we should know or keep in mind when planning for this jump
-> Take first train in the morning, pick a slot when you have had dry and good weather at least 2-3days in a row. It fogs up super easily. Have your insurance in case you need to be evacuated and don´t fuck up. It´s an awesome jump.

Re: [rendezvous] BASE Eiger Mushroom
I found my way up the eiger without help.
Bring a lightweight harness, ascender, carabiener.
Food and water. The weather is the most important part of the whole deal.

Re: [roostnureye] BASE Eiger Mushroom
A good site for checking the weather with wind forecasts at different altitudes is https://www.mountain-forecast.com . Look for a few days of high pressure with summit winds no greater than 5. The thing with this jump is you don't want to get winded or fogged out and have to downclimb it.
Also, on the approach if there are parties up ahead be on the alert for falling rock. Mucho BASE !!

Consider getting REGA membership for 25 CHF if you're not with a professional mountain guide.

Re: [setarkos] BASE Eiger Mushroom
Definitely get REGA. Before you get your landing card. Saved me $7000 for an hour of their time.

Re: [rendezvous] BASE Eiger Mushroom
For my birthday last year (Aug 21)

I had a beer at the Horner at midnight.

Walked passed the waterfall, hiked to the Eiger from LB.

Jumped the mushroom.

Repacked at Kleine Scheidegg

Hiked to the top of La Mouse.

Jumped back into the valley.

Walked back to the Horner. Had another beer.

I want that to be topped!

Fuck the helicopter!!

Awesome party no doubt! Dunnow if that can be topped now with so much palm oil on sale.

Back in the bygone era 3 Mushroom hikes a day were the norm (Chris Mac), or
Eiger-Monch-Jungfrau in 12h (Ueli G), and god knows what Dean P ever did there... Sly

I vaguely recall Trollspiret at sunset and again at sunrise or 2 Hårstadnebbas in a day, but that wasn't strictly limiting one to beer Angelic
