Ted Rudd
Was searching through old you tube videos of tracking from the early 2000's era amd ca,e across this guy tracking what appears to be Norway nit walls. WOW. I had never heard of him before I found his videos amd was wondering if he just stopped jumping or the other, darker, possibility. Alas, I found him on the BFL....very sad. I bring him up here because I wasn't aware that that level of proximity tracking even existed at that point in time. This guy was just going so hard that it doesn't surprise me he wound up going in. Sad. Does anybody have any stories about this guy? Was he one of the top trackers of his time? Even by today's standards this guy was amazing flying his body. Also, he's flying a very basic two piece suit, making it that much more impressive.

Superterminal, it is where the story starts !

Ted Died jumping, he was on of the bests at this time and he probably still is as not a lot of people can redo what he does in his 2 pieces tracksuit.

Ted was a good friend and an innovator who saw the potential that exists in tracking. Too bad he had to go before he could fully see how the potential is being explored. Also it´s worth to mention that we spoke a lot with Ted while working on the PTS project and he shared a lot of his thoughts on it so his legacy exists also in the suit.

There is a video named «last load with Ted» where he is tracking like the devil. If my memory serves me right it was filmed by Livia and it might be on facebook somewhere. Mad skills and hardcore...

This was a good one:

As for the guy who did the slider down 15+ sec delay. He escaped w/o injury but from the look of his canopy, he was extremely lucky he didn't go in. He had 5 lines brake including a few other things that will need to be repaired before the rig is jumpable again.

Lesson from this, if you have multiple rigs, and do not remember how it was packed...Skip the load and repack it. Especially if you store the rig without an attached PC (Which could aid in remembering how it was packed. If you have a rig with a 46 on it, you can guess it was not packed slider up.)

I can’t believe how flat some of those jumps looked. That’s insane he was doing that in a regular two piece. Also, the midgets are always fun to look at do normal stuff. There has to be a midget somewhere around the globe jumping. ????

Re: [Hanzo] Ted Rudd
He's Italian. And tracks like a monster. You can run into him at Brento quite often.

I also know an Aussie who may qualify, depending on your definitions.

is Ted Ruud, different person than Eilive (sp?) Ruud?

Met Eilive 6 - 8" years ago in Northern Norway.
Eilive could most definitely fly.
Not sure how he finally got caught out @ little colorado.

He was a good guy.

Re: [kleggo] Ted Rudd
Yes. Different guy. Ted was a Kiwi and Eiliv was a Norwegian.

Are confirming the existence of a BASE jumping midget? If so, how do they get gear. All custom. They would be very fun to throw off a terminal wall.

All BASE gear is custom anyway. I don't know that I've ever seen a manufacturer deliver a harness that wasn't custom sized to the order.

I think he has more than a thousand jumps, so, yes, I'd say he's having fun.

Just found his memorial video on you tube. Cool stuff, early skydive jumps and some base and surfing stuff. Seemed like a fun guy to crush a beer with after a jump.

I got my first canopy from him back in 2007 or so, Troll 265 DW, came with 2 beautiful ripped crossport holes, and was so stoked to have gotten gear from such a legend. Ted was a BALLER

...2007, ey? -- What's the color scheme?

I wonder if that's the same canopy... as I had planned to find out the full damage after inspection, but, that wasn't much of a priority after Bridge Day 2007.

Hey Douggs! Where you at?

So was Alan McCandlish... watching them both fly their S-Fly suits was quite impressive.

Eiliv Ruud was a fucking champion in the mountains and super humble guy for going so hard. I'll never forget him in Lauterbrunnen hostel describing how he would ground launch his base gear to get down after ice climbing the big waterfalls (1500ft) in the Norwegian Fjords.

No injuries to either the jumper or the canopy, actually, which seems pretty miraculous to me.

The same guy once did a naked jump at the bridge here, after dark, and lost his bag of clothes. He had to hike out wrapped in his canopy and try to figure out what to do without his car keys or wallet (which were both in with the clothes).

Especially since I was going to ask if you (or anyone else [still] reading the forum) knew the origins; as "small-dog" is clearly not a BASE jumper. Otherwise he would have been in those Kjerag jumps.

Is "midgetbase" a tribute to your short stature, Tom? -- No, I wasn't going to ask that before the guest book pic.
