Advice on Safety Gear for a Spectator
Hey everyone, I am getting more and more into BASE with the more that I read and see about it, and I have now talked to some friends of mine that do it and they said if I wanted that I can come on there next jump with them to watch how it all happens. Being an ex-safety inspector for rig sites I want to be very safe when I do this so I plan on bringing my advanced first aid kit with me but I am unsure about anything else I should take. Is there any recommended gear that should be brought with you in case of an emergency? I don't want to disclose the location they are going to, but it will take a couple hours of trekking to get in and out of the location so I will bring normal hiking supplies with me as well.

Thanks for any advice that you all can offer, I am hoping to make a good impression with my friends so they take me along more often and I can watch what they do/how they do it. I am no where close to doing a jump, but I would like to understand more about BASE anyways.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I really wanted to show my friends that I can do some research into BASE if I want to get into it, and I am really glad to be able to use this place as a resource for that. I looked at what everyone suggested to bring and the amount of space I have to bring stuff in with me (we have a truck but will not be close to it) and I was able to find a really good emergency survival kit someone was selling on http://www.used.forsale/...al-kit-used-for-sale that had lots of the items listed here, and it was all tightly packed together too. Thanks for the advice again everyone, really excited to go and watch this jump.

Head lamp, whistle, space blanket, cell phone.

If tree landings are possible, tree rescue equipment. But your friends should know better - why don't you ask them?

If you are watching from the exit, maybe climbing harness, rope and slings to secure yourself.

A handheld survival chainsaw and trekking poles that can double as crutches.

My most used piece of emergency gear is a saw, followed by crutches. Those two things have gotten me through 90% of incidents without having to call for help.

A roll of cling film, think you Yanks call it food wrap?

Pull 3-4 layers off the roll and it's sterile, can be used to secure splints, keep infection out of burns, help stop bleeding, holds its self in place without sticking to the wound, medics can see through it and it can be x-rayed if need be.
I even know of a jumper you has used it as break cord ;)

I used food wrap to collect water when I was in the desert for the day working once. You dig a big hole, put a cup in the middle and the wrap over the whole then secure it with rocks along the edge. Condensation forms on the inside of the hole and then drips into the cup. That stuff is crazy useful!
