Liability and lawsuits
Have there been any instances where a jumper or their family sue an object owner or an organizer or someone involved in an event? I'm aware of the Erin Engle lawsuit but don't know the outcome and it also isn't quite what I'm asking about. I'm asking about land/object owners and/or events that had issues.

What is a normal amount of liability insurance coverage for an event? Avery B. mentioned to me at one time he had a pretty large policy for the events he ran. Any suggestions on a company to contact for a quote?

Thanks

I have no specifics - but would a hold harmless agreement signed by all participants not prevent such legal action?

A hold-harmless agreement does not protect you from third party liability. Say for example you damage a car, or kill someone walking below the event. Since they are not a party to the waiver, you are on the hook for that lawsuit.

Insurance is such a wicked racket.

Yeah no waiver keeps you from being sued even by the Releasee, but definitely not by the 3rd party public. I write them for a few dropzone a and one cunty neighbor of a dropzone I won't name is threatening to sue them for property damage caused by...a dead impacting jumper. Some people have all the class.

With that said, I would contact Berkley Aviation Insurance and Falcon Insurance. Berkley underwrites the USPA 3rd party liability insurance that comes with skydiving licenses.

The family of BFL 280 sued the object owner. Case was dismissed.
