Re: [321sendit] What is the best way to connect with locals to jump their objects?
Not in any way that my last post wasn't serious, but here are some other suggestions. I have spent most of my base career traveling and there are the things I found help.
1, get good at access and opening objects on your own. Offering a new key to the locals always helps get the wheels turning. And conversely, people are a lot more anxious to show you their ways if they know your going jumping reguardless.
2. The liquor and hard drugs cannot be overstressed. If they are city jumpers you know their down, if they are county jumpers then you know their even more down because it's harder to get. A bag of Molly to start the friendship and some Valium to get your new found jumping parter to sleep early enough to bring you in a load the next morning go a long way.
3. Don't waste your time going through all your references and busting out your log book. Nobody actually cares if you go in, you just sound like a tool off the bat.
4. No invite, no problem. If I waited for a invitation to jump in every podunk town I worked in I'd never jump. Not to say you should go to the most obvious object and get that thing runnin like a raped ape, but if you threw down on BJ, FB and your jumper network and no one hit you back, then it's all fair game.
5. If they do hit you back, listen! If you don't like what they have to say you can go open somthing new or kick it in your hotel room and stfu. Anything in between is foolish for someone trying to stay in the community for more than a season or two.
6. Bring women with you, every jumper has GC, but Our collective personality as BASE jumpers sends good women running like shiner from a revenue man. If you can find a couple ladies to listen to our shit for an hour or two you would be supprised with the amount info about every single local object you will hear.
7. Don't talk about sky jumping, it's gay and no one wants to hear that shit.
8. Keep your mouth shut, just because one of the locals hooked you up doesn't mean he meant to hook your whole crew up. If someone gives you somthing sweet hold it close to your chest, this is a small community, rememeber every time you bragshare an object that's not yours you are within one degree of seperation of burning yourself.
9. Open objects and be hospitable to others in your own local. I had trouble with this in the beginning of my base career, but luckily it faded.
I don't mind the go pros or the you tubes but I fucking hate the fact I feel most new jumpers come and take from the community for their season in base and never give anything back to it besides hotter objects and less sex appeal. Do your fucking part and contribute and others will be much happier to do the same in return.
10. Don't do any weird shit like chant to the gods on exit, throw tobacco to the wind, or admit your straightedge. There's already 4 guys in our sport who can pull that quire shit off and you're not one of them.
Hope this helps.
