Rescue - Perrine Bridge (Update: hiker, not base jumper)

In reply to:
TWIN FALLS -- A man who was trapped on a cliff face after leaping from the Perrine Bridge with a parachute Tuesday evening is safe.

Rescue crews and a rappel team worked for hours to reach the BASE jumper, who was stranded below the bridge.

Kayakers in the area heard someone screaming screaming for help, and called 911 at about 7 p.m. Rescue crews and a rappel team were able to reach the man just before 11 p.m.

The BASE jumper was not hurt, dispatchers say.

The rescue attempts blocked traffic on the bridge in both directions Tuesday evening.

The Perrine Bridge is a popular destination for BASE jumpers, in part because parachutists are not required to get a permit before leaping from the structure.

Sounds like someone had a safe jump, but got stuck on the hike out?

Update: Not a jumper.

Could be the man who has been asking for a taxi cause the hiking is too strenuous. ?

Re: [epibase] Rescue - Perrine Bridge
That was my first thought, although I don't want to rush to conclusions.

Whomever he is, I hope he seriously reconsiders his participation in BASE.

I would hope that was the result of a cliff strike/hang-up and not a hike-out failure.

From what I've been able to gather this wasn't even a base jumper, some young kid down climbed from the top and got stuck.

Because that would have been hilarious Laugh

I don't care about that person, specifically.

I'd like to know what exactly happened, and if there's anything to be learned from it. I had assumed there would be more information available at this point, but that hasn't happened.

The Twin Falls Sheriff's Office originally told KTVB the man was a BASE jumper. Later, officials said that was incorrect, and that he was a hiker.

Not sure what information is needed.

Thanks! I didn't see that the article had been updated

Re: [gharrop] Rescue - Perrine Bridge
Why woud you wish someone to have a cliff strike or a hang up rather than simply getting lost?

That is fucked up. You should take a good look at yourself and consider your values.

Re: [jtholmes] Rescue - Perrine Bridge
I meant that in reference to the rescue taking four hours and blocking traffic. At this time of year it's inconceivable that a jumper could get that stuck before 7pm and have no one around to follow.
