you need to add another option to the poll

something you should already know before BASE jumping

how to clear line twist
I voted pulling them together. Not to get out of them, but to get the twists lower and get me closer to lines I can control. My absolute last priority in line twists on a BASE jump is getting out of them. Correct my heading, find home, maintain heading, and get into my intended or improvised flight pattern, and if I have to flare plf and land before the idea of getting out of twists. I've never seen a semitrical spinup of a base canopy that deformes the airfoil badly that it could not be safely landed if could get above the twists.

I know this is easier said than done, and if I have the altitude I always opt for getting out of the twists after getting into my flight path, but there is tons of video out there of guys who are now really wishing they would have fought for control lines instead of trying to spin out.

pull the risers together and spin them to get the twist down is also what i plan to do if necessary to correct the heading in time or land the twist. but i'm not sure how to clear the twist so fast as possible. i don't realise a benefit to do something else than kicking it out but many others do it another way... so maybe i'm wrong.

I'd rather be lucky than good, but being both usually helps.

the landing is really nice, but i hate to say handling of the twist after opening was poor.
canopy was heading into open airspace, until jumper grabbed a frontriser and pulled hard putting canopy into turn towards tower, still holding on to the pulled down front riser while trying to fiddle around finding a backriser with the other hand, narrowly missing the tower (while in an front riser accelerated turn)...

KL Tower at that time of the afternoon can be a painful place to try and land a canopy even without what she had on her plate. Having been there when that happened, she did pretty good. Believe me. The video shows that if you ask me.

So what are you going to do if the risers are twisted up behind your neck?

Re: [heavy] how to clear line twist
Here's what works for me - reach up and grab the twists with both hands and start twisting them like your wringing out a wet shirt. The twists will move down into the risers where you can get a control line or get them out easier.

Also had a friend do this, but i have never tried it , so take it for what it's worth.
He went for toggles with twists. The brake line stays down, so don't pull it more than halfway. You get one slow turn with one toggle and then you can stop the turn with the other and land in half brakes with no flare.
