So, so sad. He was always answering questions and sharing his knowledge. You will be missed.

Really sad :(
Was the bad exit caused by slipping on snow at the exit?

What was seen from the ground. Walter was to jump last.

After exit he got very steep quite soon, flipped, tried to correct with some corkscrewish turn. Nothing out on impact. Wether the steep flight was caused by slipping or something else is unknown. Exit was free of snow.

Great and very motivated man. He will be missed dearly.

Very sad to see that face in the article. Walter was a great guy who I seemed to bump into all over the world. Usually a fairly conservative jumper as well.

I wonder if Walter is perhaps the most experienced base jumper to die BASE jumping.

Walter was a great person and a very close friend. He was always happy to share his great experience on BASE and life in general and I will miss a lot our discussions.

Pordoi seems to be a bad place for super experienced jumpers as I think this is the same exit from where Mario Richards fatality took place? I think Mario was more experienced on terms of years in the sport and probably in nbr of exits jumped but most likely Walter had more jumps.

Correct maretus,

Mario impacted the saddle not far from exit on same jump. FrownFrownFrown

And also McConkey but from the lower exit I believe.Frown

Was Walter the Deutschlander who was also an attorney based in Munich?
He has / had children who also skydived with him??
If so, I am very sad.
I initially met him in Lauterbrunnen.
He showed up at the Horner in his Audi S4 Avant loaded with 8 base rigs packed and ready.

We made several jumps together once he realized that I was not the typical lazy american who was too lazy to hike to exit points.

Trying to find a photo of our fun.

Walter was an awesome guy, as everyone who met him would likely agree. his wife was also super nice and traveled with him a lot. he fairly recently had been teaching his son to BASE jump as well. i hope to get to cross paths with him some time.

definitely a huge blow.

Walter and Mirko were two of the first i had the honor to share jumps with in europe over a decade ago.
