Vision: new canopy?
Anyone tried it and has thoughts to share?

Re: [1687] Vision: new canopy?
Find "lemmings Base" on Facebook, lots of videos of jumps and some thoughts about Vision.
I wonder if this is replacement for OSP? SD only?

Re: [Lukasz_Se] Vision: new canopy?
I believe it's available with only micro line, so it would be SU only, if anything.

Re: [TomAiello] Vision: new canopy?
Vision is an OSP evolution, for SD e SU jumps!

Re: [TomAiello] Vision: new canopy?
Is it already available? I can't see anything on their website.

Re: [TomAiello] Vision: new canopy?
My information was wrong on that. It's available with either dacron or spectra, apparently.

Re: [snhughes] Vision: new canopy?
Yes. I think the first few (to Atair dealers and sponsored jumpers) are already out in the wild.

We have some on order, so I'll have real world feedback in a couple months after I have a chance to put some jumps on them.

Re: [1687] Vision: new canopy?
Yeah iv had my 245 Vision for a bit now and been jumping it SU & SD. I have always been a massive OSP fan and didn't think they could beat it but ATAIR have pulled out the goods on this one. It has all of the great flight characteristics of the OSP but a different trim so it delivers a slightly faster forward speed and a greater range in flight. Which is super handy to have no matter what your jumping. Super fun canopy to fly and superb openings SD and also terminal. If your a OSP fanboy then this is the next next thing.

Hello, ive been trying to find this canopy online and cant find it visible nowhere. How did you get yours? Is it a demo and still not for sale? Thank you.

Re: [Chicolate] Vision: new canopy?
Yeah i dont think it is online yet and only a few out there atm. I got mine through a friend who is a rep, Contact Lewis Jones on Facebook and he can get you one. He is a tester and also the Vision is his baby.

Re: [Chicolate] Vision: new canopy?
BASEGear.net should have stock vision canopies in North America in another few weeks.

According to Atair, the Vision is not intended to replace the OSP, but is a complementary product.

Relative to the OSP, the Vision is supposed to have;

More glide
Stronger flare from full flight
Sharper/faster toggle response

The OSP is presumably more docile and forgiving than the Vision.

No word on the sink ability or turbulence resistance of the Vision. Given the areas of change from the OSP, I'd expect that these will also change a bit as well, since normally there is some trade off in those areas.

I don't have one in hand yet--all of the above information about the characteristics of the new canopy are the results of conversations with Andrej at Atair.

Re: [TomAiello] Vision: new canopy?
As I mentioned above Iv had mine awhile now and the Vison has all the same abilities of the OSP. Slow an stable flight, flawlessly stable sinking ability and the list goes on. It's a lot more responsive in the toggles, faster flight / drive and better range. definitely won't replace the OSP but once people see the ability of the Vison I'm sure the tide will change.

What kind of jumps have you been doing on it?

Slider up/down? Or both?

Good LZs? Or tight urban stuff?

Have you had to take any turbulence in flight?

Re: [TomAiello] Vision: new canopy?
Been doing both on it, slider down off cliffs and terminal tracking in a one piece. I live in Switzerland so been jumping in all sorts of mountain / valley weather and it is as stable an awesome just like the OSP. I personally have not been jumping this canopy in urban but i know the tester of the Vision was jumping it in London and now is the only canopy he is flying and sold his OSPs. Few of the SD jumps here have super tight landings an she sinks in just fine. When i get a chance ill be replacing my OSP in my other rigs with visions. Just my opinion anyway you really need to fly it to see if it is to your liking. But if your in the OSP market i would be looking at the Vision has everything and more.

Do you use Atair canopies for your courses Tom? Or all APEX gear?

We use a huge mix of gear (we're running about 100 student rigs right now). We have gear from every manufacturer on the student wall (and the stock shelf). At a guess, I'd say we have more Asylum/Squirrel and Consolidated Rigging gear at the moment than either Apex or Atair gear.

We have both Visions and OSPs currently on order for stock gear, and I also have a Vision on order for myself personally.

Wow that's awesome you have a range like that. Nice. Good to let students fly a see what they like from all the brands. You will absolutely love your Vision no matter what your jumping SU or SD. Make sure you let me know your thoughts on it when you get it.

Hi All!
Received my Vision few days ago (I have an OSP too) and done only few urban jumps in turbulent wind too, the canopy is very stable with a great and powerful flare for a BASE canopy (better than OSP in my little opinion) even from 50% brake applied for more vertical approach too.
Another great canopy from Atair

Just my 0.001 cent

Safe jumps to all

Re: [1687] Vision: new canopy?
I put the first two jumps on mine this morning.

My Vision has spectra lines (and a red "slider up only" warning on the tail pocket label to match them), so bear that in mind when I compare to other canopies (all with dacron lines).

Initial thoughts:

Amazing glide. Tons of range to reach out to a distant LZ. I opened at my normal altitude and still had to do two full 360 spirals to burn altitude after reaching the normal LZ at Brento.

Good flare. Better than OSP. Not quite as much flare as the new generation Apex canopies like the Lobo, or the PD Proxy.

Slider up openings with a fine mesh slider were very nice. Fast enough to make me happy, not so hard as to hurt my old back.

Definitely opens softer than the OSP with the fine mesh slider (I have an OSP UL in my other rig on this trip, in the same size as the Vision).

Steep brake approach characteristics are excellent, but not as good as the Outlaw or OSP (still better than anything else on the market, though).

Toggle response is sharper than OSP--more like my Ibex or Se7en.

So far I really like it. I see it as a nice complement to a slower "technical BASE" canopy (like an OSP or Outlaw), but not as a replacement for one.

Re: [Chicolate] Vision: new canopy?
Hi there, 50 Cal BASE is also a dealer for Atair products and can get you a Vision. We have had a test canopy for almost 2 years and can pretty much echo the opinions above in terms of extended range of flight and powerful flare compared to the OSP. Send me a PM for more details.

Tom- how does the Vision differ from the OSP? Does it have the same vent/slat construction?

It has the same vent/slat/extra stabilizers as the OSP.

The underlying airfoil is different. It's noticeably thinner and higher aspect ratio, although I haven't measured it.

Re: [Nevadal] Vision: new canopy?
I believe BASEgear.net still has a couple stock Visions, but you'd have to email John to verify that. I know demand is high and he may have sold the stock already.
