Re: [1687] Vision: new canopy?
I put the first two jumps on mine this morning.
My Vision has spectra lines (and a red "slider up only" warning on the tail pocket label to match them), so bear that in mind when I compare to other canopies (all with dacron lines).
Initial thoughts:
Amazing glide. Tons of range to reach out to a distant LZ. I opened at my normal altitude and still had to do two full 360 spirals to burn altitude after reaching the normal LZ at Brento.
Good flare. Better than OSP. Not quite as much flare as the new generation Apex canopies like the Lobo, or the PD Proxy.
Slider up openings with a fine mesh slider were very nice. Fast enough to make me happy, not so hard as to hurt my old back.
Definitely opens softer than the OSP with the fine mesh slider (I have an OSP UL in my other rig on this trip, in the same size as the Vision).
Steep brake approach characteristics are excellent, but not as good as the Outlaw or OSP (still better than anything else on the market, though).
Toggle response is sharper than OSP--more like my Ibex or Se7en.
So far I really like it. I see it as a nice complement to a slower "technical BASE" canopy (like an OSP or Outlaw), but not as a replacement for one.
