Re: [Heat] WS BASE after 5 jumps - What could go wrong

This is a great video.
These jumps are all done in what I consider my back yard, and this jumper went mostly under the radar at the time. We the locals had heard rumors about a jumper in the area with little experience, but none of us knew him or who he was. Then came his second cliff strike requiring a rescue and we all learned it was some eastern european kid working in Kristiansund (I think).
Some time later me and a very experinced local met him by chance one evening on Gridset. He was gearing up and my friend started talking to him. He told us he had jump numbers in the 30's and that this was his third jump on his new suit - the X3. Then he proceeded to ask us how to best fly it!
At that point my jaw was practically on the floor. To be honest I really didn't want to watch him jump or jump that exit my self. I wanted no part in this shit show. In my mind I was contemplating either hiking down, hiking over to another exit or try to persuade him to hike back down. My friend took another approach before I even had a chance to make up my mind, though, which in retrospect I think was the right decicion. He helped him out, gave him some tips and we eventually decided to jump together.
My friends rationalle was simple: this kid is going to jump anyways. He's been doing EVERYTHING wrong all on his own - let's try to influence him and teach him in whatever way we can and avoid a fatality in the making.
We jumped, I out flew him in my t-bird. He's still alive and has made some progress since then.
Met him again early spring last year, I still out flew him in my t-bird but he is a much safer jumper now.
Respect for making and putting out that video Krystof. Safe jumps
And APPRECIATION for creating such a great training tool. The thing is, we mostly see only the good jumps by superior technicians and pilots -- so it was very instructive to see repeated videos with his various errors that at the same time allowed the viewer to see what he should have done (like waiting too long to turn away at Bispen... I kept leaning left in my chair as I watched it, thinking "Dude, too low, too low. Bail now!").
Pure speculation of course, but I think any aspiring wingsuit base jumper who sees it will be less likely to make the mistakes it documents.
BTW, Heat, why do you think it is that you can outfly him and his X-3 with your T-bird? What is he doing wrong and/or what are you doing right?
And what did you and your friend say to him that helped him improve his safety margin (if not his performance)?
