First Canopy ZP Nose yes or not
hey guys,

i will be buying my first canopy and i am decided for Troll (245 or 265) now.
Is ZP Nose any worth buying and if yes does it make sense to order MDV (on how many cells) with it?

Also does Troll feature bridle multi attachment point?

Many thanks
Radek

Good choice. You will be very happy with it.

It adds lifetime to your canopy as the flare stays better longer. It also adds glide to it but based on my experience makes it more difficult to sink. So depends on the type of jumps you're planning. If I was buying a Troll for mostly bad landing areas where you need good sinking capability and ability for steep approaches I would go without the ZP nose. If I was going mainly for good landing areas and lot of jumps (for example LB style) I would go for the ZP nose.

Yes, take the full MDV (5cells). (Regardless whether you go for ZP nose or not).

No it doesn't.

Packing ZP is more difficul too.

I'd go with just F-111 (no zp nose), just because as a beginner you're going to have enough trouble packing without adding a slippery nose.

On your next canopy, you'll probably be a much more experienced packer, and it won't be an issue at all, but most of the beginner packers I've known have struggled with the ZP nose.

many thanks for the replies,

I think i can go w/out ZP Nose :-)

any idea if the 5 MDV would compromise glide ratio of the canopy? That means, in case i need to fly long distance to LZ would it be any disadvantage over having e.g. 3 valves or 1 valve only?

When going to mountains for terminal jumps (that is where i'd like to be jumping the most) is MDV (5vents) with slow slider configuration bearably (un)comfortable during openings? I understand this is subject to personal feeling so, is this a ok configuration when i am looking for a versatile(multi-purpose) canopy?

Trolls are awesome, good choice!

Only get the ZP if you live within
driving distance to ITW or LB.

Definitely get 5 vents.

I'd say No to the multi idea.

If you are in a situation where that GR makes the difference between making the LZ or not then you fucked up and pulled too low. But if you fuck up and pull too low having the vents will help you sink the canopy to stick it somewhere else, and will (hopefully) keep it pressurized if you snag the nose in branches or fail to hang it up a tree. It can also save your ass if you hit the cliff, and it will make the canopy manouverable sooner after deployment than if it was unvented.

Even out in the mountains sooner or later you will have to land your canopy in a tight shitty landing area, and when that happens you'll be glad you have vents.

No. There is no appreciable difference in glide ratio from venting configuration.

Hi, thanks for the info.

Is jumping terminal with 5 vents and slow slider ok for opening or should i start working out to get hulk's muscles on my back to resist the opening shock? :-)

I have done full terminal slick with the big hole mesh slider.
Opening force can be reduced with correct pilot chute and
some packing techniques -- I use a small bit of thin, green
painter's tape on the red lines, 2 wraps of the primary stow,
roll nose cells 1,2,3 outboard, roll 5,6,7 outboard and place
each inside # 4, your middle cell, half on each side of rib.

I have had all my Trolls apart from the first one with 5 vents and never used a "slow slider" with them. I´d say 90% jumps with the standard large mesh slider (the rest 10% with fine mesh), very nice openings on terminal. A bit on the snappy side but nothing too bad. Have about 700 SU openings with them, most on terminal delays. Mostly with tracking suit but also some with WS´s. I´d say start with the standard slider and if it yields too hard openings, then only get the slow one.

All

thanks for quick answers, i really appreciate it. I was thinking getting answers would take much more time than that!
I am indeed impressed and grateful for having somebody experienced caring for noob's questions :-) !

I use a fully vented Fox with a big mesh slider for terminal and it's fine.

I loved my openings on my vented troll! It's a nice canopy. I had it in ultra light material with dacron lines. Great combination
