MS22002-1 vs PS22002-1
What's the difference between these two parts? Can they be used interchangeably for L-bar type risers? I am used to seeing the MS22002-1 and bought a pair of PS22002-1 and apparently they are the same spec but have different color and feel.

MS -> milspec
PS -> piaspec

essentially the same thing.

And now the next question. How do you manage to separate these L-bar links?

haha, fun big times :-)

theres something written in poynters parachute manual, but im not home at the moment to look it up. but below pretty much sums it up

so you get one of these:

i use a polished piece of metal that is just the right size to go inbetween there (and not hurt webbing) and put it in a strong bench vice instead.

then unscrew both sides just a tiny bit and use a hammer on the screw heads.
be careful to not wreck the harness webbing (or the risers if you want to still use them).

why do you want to replace the lbars in the first place?

All you need is a block of wood, a screwdriver and a hammer. Back both screws out a little. Then stand the L-Bar on its end on the block of wood so that it is balanced on the bottom screw head. Then gently tap the top screw head with short sharp taps until the L-Bar separates. Don't hammer at it so hard that you damage the screw head or screw threads.
Can be a pain sometimes but beats paying $350 for a "Separating Tool".

Re: [Fledgling] MS22002-1 vs PS22002-1
I use a "10-way tank wrench" with a long screw driver to pop open L-bars. It's faster and easier than tapping on the screws and only costs about $6. Instructions and pictures here.

If they're not too crazy tight, undo the screws, put a couple flathead screwdrivers in the link, put a chunk of wood or another fulcrum between them, and squeeze, prying apart the L-links.

The military abandoned all parachute related mil-specs in 1998. PIA took over maintaining them and updating them. Even now many people in the related industries calls them mil spec and labels catalogs milspecs even though they know better.

Lots of variations on taking them apart. Not recommended but I pop the screw heads with a copper hammer.
