Bridge Day 2016 Recap
The sun was out, the temperatures were warm and the wind was light all day. The water was low making the landing area much bigger than last year.

  • 240 jumpers + 20 staff registered

  • 587 jumps were made

  • 29 states and 4 countries were represented

  • 13 female jumpers

  • 51 first time jumpers

  • 92 water landings

  • The oldest jumper was 76

  • The youngest jumper was 18

  • The platform was bigger and higher than last year

  • A diving board was available

  • There was 1 injury requiring an ambulance ride (two jumpers mistimed a two way and wrapped. They rode the wrap into the water close to shore. One suffered a lower leg fracture).

  • I've heard crowd estimates anywhere from 80,000 to 120,000

  • No background checks or finger scans

  • NPS permitted an extra 10 minutes of jumping to accommodate jumpers who were in line when a train came near the end of the day and to allow for a 7 way from the rail to end the day.

  • The chamber provided a bbq dinner on Friday and 50 pizzas and 3 kegs of a local craft brew on Saturday

  • The chamber also provided $500 cash as a prize for landing accuracy. It was split between 4 jumpers who all got dead centers

  • The video fest was back with prizes donated by Skunk Ape BASE

  • Other prizes were donated by Troy Lee Designs, Kavu, Mark Kruse, and others

51 first timers seems a lot, what is normal?

I think about 1 out of 4 jumpers being first timers is normal at Bridge Day

"•No background checks or finger scans"

Wasn't that one of the items for protesting last year?

    What happened this year?

My first trip to bridge day was '83 and my last was '99. Actually, those were my only trips to BD. Frown

I type only for myself, having stayed away for 12 years not supporting another mans business, My personal choice... Last two years have been great! Glad to see the event run so smoothly with so little issues and problems not caused by one individual, such a great event day! Relationships are better than I have ever seen on all lettered agency levels going back to the 90's. Cudos to Everyone and especially the few volenteers spearheading this! Looking forward to next year... Good times had by all!!! Epic year with only one transport and full respect of participants!
    Party on!

    Marvin VandeLinde,

Actually, you stayed away for 12 years because you didn't know how to follow our rules.

Yes, I've had a very busy life outside of this forum for the last year or more. I haven't read any posts or made any jumps for quite some time. I came back to post an ad to sell my human catapult system used during Bridge Day 2012-2014, then I stumbled on the BD 2016 thread.
