Does anyone have an anemometer brand or model they would recommend. I'm considering getting one and, apart from what Google says, I have little idea of what I'm looking for.

I've used Kestrels with work, not extensively though. They seem good.

I have also used kestrels for work and i liked them except that the kind i had did not have a backlit display. Kind of annoying at night, but i'm sure they have a model that fixes that by now. after a while i just got good enough to judge the wind accurately to within a knot or two just by the feel.

I bought a cheapie on eBay and used it for a year or so.
It was pretty accurate, this I based on comparisons I did
with the dropzone's nicer and much more expensive unit.
Eventually I sold it because once you Know winds and
have experience, the exact number is not important.

That's my problem right now, I can usually make a "I'm comfortable with this" vs. "not comfortable with this" determination, but it's hard for me to gauge how hard winds are really blowing and how far it will push my canopy flight.

It seems analogous to training your eyes to the altimeter. I remember you telling me that you had students cover the altimeter and guess what altitude they were at. Eventually you just get better at it.
