Puerto Rico jump
Hi guys, here is a video of one of my base jumps in the Island. Puerto Rico basejumping questions always come around and all we hear/read is "don't bother to bring your gear there is nothing out there" and as a local I know we have lots of objects, so I decided to give it a shot, here is one of my favorite. Cheers!

What??? No Gainer?

Re: [icarusfx99] Puerto Rico jump
Unfortunately this jump didn't meet my criteria for a gayner. Here are my excuses:

a. Minimum Gayner altitude for me is 260ft this was 240ish.

b. Unlike some jumps we have done where we had soybeans in the landing are I had Coconut Palm Trees and they freaked me out.

c. And for my final excuse, well . . . it was daytime!!! Gayners scare me during the day I can see too much. LOL

Plz dont take offense to this: Not sure your experience level but may wanna watch that bridle. At 1:30 ur POV is showing it routed on the inside of your right arm. Setting yourself up for a potential wrap. Just a thought.

Nice Jump!!

Hey no worries brother no offense taken, Thanks for looking out.

Re: [dride] Puerto Rico jump
I think (and have been taught, which given my inexperience is probably more relevant) that this is the proper bridle placement for hand-held (unless I'm brainfarting right now).

If the bridle is on the other side (outside/back) an entanglement is imo more likely because the elbow could snag the bridle on that side and it could slip to the other side under your arm due to bridle stretch.

If the bridle is on the inside you would have to either go head down or throw your PC in a stupid way to cause an entanglement.

edit: I made a picture

Yes, that was my first thought. But then I looked again and appears it is just excess hanging in front of the bicep, not actually routed around the arm. Probably went behind the arm when he started running.

Buen salto, bru!

Unfortunately both these scenarios happen more often than not on HH go-and-throws.

Why set yourself up for failure if you are saying wraps can happen with both these incidents?

Just generating discussion here, not saying what you were taught is wrong.

Re: [dride] Puerto Rico jump
Of course both these mistakes can happen. But if the bridle is on the back it can snag on the elbow and slip to the front even with a perfect 45 degree front/right throw, no?
I guess the question would be which is more likely or which of these entanglements is easier/faster to clear...

Edit: However I tend to think entanglement due to bad exit or weird throw is evenly likely for both options whereas the snag hazard due to the elbow only exists when the bridle is on the outside/back.

Re: [yeyo] Puerto Rico jump
I never said it was routed AROUND the arm, just on the INSIDE of the arm.

Bridles can do some weird shit even at very low air speeds.

I agree it may have just "fell" naturally behind the arm as he took off running but IMO you should get in a habit of making sure ALL of the bridle is on the outside of your arm.

Yes! 100% agree!

Re: [dride] Puerto Rico jump
DTM has the bridle on the 'inside' of his upper arm, too:

Just noticed by chance.

Re: [Lance5] Puerto Rico jump
All 4 jumps are on my fb page but yeah. No one was willing to do the 150' bridge so I had the honor.

If your going to the boogie in Feb let me know and we'll organize a jump. There's a few guys jumping there now.

Super pumped about PR BASE! Hey man thanks for sharing.
That is Awesome! I grew up all over the island and since I was a kid I picked some places that I wanted to jump from and that's how it all started. If we get together you will have a jumper with you willing to do some dirty low/sketch jumps but of course in a safe-ish way.
