I cannot say I'm surprised. Cant crash into a house and not have consequences. They did it already, this is the 2nd time around, I would also not be surprised if this time it's permanently.

My friend was there for speedflying a few months ago.
He has just started BASE but was there for speedflying only.
He stayed in accommodation with his wife.
The owner was really friendly and saw him packing his speed wing.
She asked him if it was a wingsuit.
She said wingsuit flyers were not welcome in her place anymore.

I don't wingsuit and I never have any intention of doing so, but I hope you guys can get through without a ban. Incidents that go against the hard work of the locals is always a shame, especially you hard working and dedicated French.

This sucks on so many levels. Historically, Chamonix has been very tolerant about extreme sports and people dying while doing them - getting after it in the mountains is what Chamonix is all about. Sadly, I'm not surprised :(

Our sport looks like dog shit right now. The home of "extreme sports" is considering banning us. This is not about Ratmir, I'll miss the smiling Russian, but everyone is tired of BASE tourists coming and disrespecting this amazing place.

The valley has not only seen a lot of carnage this year, but on top of it people landing wherever they please, dumb shits flying over rescue helicopters, ignoring the very basic rules, rushing around like addicts to make the next load – and now smashing into houses. If I wasn't a wingsuit pilot I wouldn’t want us either.

If you plan on visiting bring an upgraded respect to this fucking place. Come skilled, bring a phone, call the fucking rescue heli, land where we are allowed, and don't be a piece of shit. If you see other jumpers slipping, take action.

If you don't have my back on this, come find me.

If anyone spots Alexander Polli's belongings with someone else (2 tracking suits, a wingsuit and cameragear) as it went missing after his accident, friends and family would appreciated seeing it returned...

 

This is disappointing if you happen to be a wingsuiter, but hardly surprising. Also I don't believe for a second that some yahoos won't still be jumping. Because they are fucking renegades who won't let a few pencil pushers tell them what they can or cannot do in the mountains. Those FB likes don't just happen on their own, you gotta earn them! hashtag sarcasm.

Contempt for the rules and baiting the authorities is the WRONG direction to take this. Legal BASE jumping is the only type of BASE jumping I can do, therefore I will be fairly disappointed when people phuck that up.

Put down your ego and let's work with the authorities, not against them.

Everyone is always going on about ethics. I was taught, "The bottom line aim of our ethical system is to facilitate continued jumping for all who wish and are able to do so"
These people are fucking that up, so name these people get the authorities involved, the local council? And show them we are serious about keeping this place open.

also a nice indication to everyone out there in internet land on what things are like here atm. A few guys land paragliders in the wrong spot and the whole town is talking about it...

I understand why you say this, but Alygator is right; they are two different things.

In the case of the NPS, the superintendent at the time of the legal program is on record stating that the whole legal program was a sham to so they could shut it down permanently. They operated in bad faith.

In the case of Chamonix, the town and its leaders have operated in good faith throughout, and only get touchy when the jumpers hit buildings and otherwise disturb their peace and quiet and threaten their personal safety.

It is nice to know, though, that, so far, wingsuiters are honoring the ban and that the "bad guys" turned out only to be bad at paraglider navigation. Hopefully, the former will continue and the latter will buy better GPS units and/or scout their landing areas better.
