WWL Qualifications
Just looking through who is in the WWL lineup and noticing that it does not include the winners of the World Base Race? How do the qualifications work now?

Re: [gnarlysquirrel] WWL Qualifications
This year the event is an invitational, pilots have been selected on their skill, experience and media profile.

Hopefully that is not true.

The best pilots available should be used if you try to present the premier WS Base event.

Lower down the page are a bunch more profiles.

We are proud to introduce our new wingsuit racing format. The 2016 World Wingsuit League China Grand Prix will be the most exciting and challenging race yet after organizers of the head-to-head speed race added two more distinct race courses that will determine not just the fastest athlete in the world but the most precise and technically proficient pilot as well.

Sixteen wingsuit pilots from all over the world will descend on China’s Hunan province October 13-16 to compete on Tienman Mountain in Zhangjiajie prefecture. The competition will start Thursday the 13th on the first-ever two-turn slalom course that will test pilot flying proficiency and maneuverability. The fastest eight pilots will then advance to Saturday’s speed round, conducted on last year’s head-to-head course. The Grand Prix will conclude on Sunday with the accuracy contest, where the pilots will try to punch their heads through the center of a 1x1-meter target suspended 60 feet above the mountainside. The overall champion will be determined by cumulative score through all three events.

“We added the slalom and accuracy because the sport itself has evolved so much in the five years since our first race here,” says WWL president Iiro Seppanen. “The skill level of the athletes has grown so much that a pure speed race just doesn’t prove who the best all-around pilots are. On top of that, these added course will show all of our loyal fans just how brilliantly the top pilots can now fly.”

Seppanen said all rounds of the 2016 Grand Prix will be broadcast live throughout greater China and race organizers expect broad international news coverage as well.

“We had tens of millions viewers last year,” he said. “We hope to do even better this year because we are collaborating creatively with Hunan TV to provide an even better and more dynamic viewing experience.”

Perhaps the most dynamic new element after the additional race courses will be live drone coverage of the races from multiple locations along each course.

“It will be the first time drones have been used during a wingsuit race,” Seppanen said. “Viewers will see the action like it’s never been seen before, and our feature packages will go deeper than ever before into the science behind the human flight, the sport of wingsuit flying, and the amazing athletes who inspire all of us as they pursue their dreams.”

This used to be true for events held in China but the contract was changed last year. Many of this years WWL pilots are currently in Dashanbao for the Wings for Love event.
