Moderators could maybe separate these on their own threads...

I split the posts about High Ultimate into their own thread for the jumper from that exit. I edited the subject title of the original post to reflect the other jumper. So let's keep discussion about Uli's incident here, and the British/American jumper in the other thread. If you have any suggestions about how I could've done this better, let me know. It's honestly super depressing that people are dying at the rate that this is necessary...

to be honest, right now it is not clear yet what exactly and how it happened. all we know is he jumped from black line, which is neither a new/hardcore exit he just opened nor necessarily one of the super hardcore lines he was flying. yes he was pushing the limits but its maybe not what got him in the end...

While I agree that his jumps were not sustainable, Uli was actually one of the more humble and least "skygod-like" hardcore WS jumpers I've met. People from Sudtirol have crazy outdoor activities in their blood, Uli was only doing what came naturally to him. Wearing 10 Gopros was just what allowed him to do it full time.

Yes, I agree with that. Uli was definitely pushing the limits but it wasn't for validation or ego massage from from other people, it was just because he wanted to. I think he was actually very private about about most of his jumps, just publishing what he needed to try and make a living out of wing suiting full time.

Was he pushing the limits to get Red Bulls attention?

Sorry to see such a talented jumper pushing it to far, but what can you say, when every jump is like pushing it to hard,,,,,,,, Most of the jumpers who want to be seen, push it enough to get attention, and after that gets more selective in their jumps.

How many jumps total a year now? 60 - 70 k? that will make 2000 jumps one fatality

Uli was not "pushing it" on this jump. He was filming another jumper from a known exit.

I'll let someone with 1st hand info post details.

Re: [unclecharlie95] 17. Aug. 2016 - Uli Emanuele
Someone wrote here that there's nothing to learn from flocking dives (skydives) when preparing to WS base. If this kind of manoeuvre was done even in a beginner level flocking skydive it would have caused a major shouting at ground. Very bad choice concidering his experience in flying.

Would the more common way to loose altitude be pulling the arms back hard or are there other better ways? Specifically for Base but I'm interested in the answer for both disciplines. To me arching and flying head high with knees bent in Base might not be the best option even though I see people doing this in skydiving.

It seems that there are still rumours floating around in Lauterbrunnen of a conspiracy to hide what happened to Uli.

Please stop spreading bullshit nonsense. It is upsetting for the family, friends and those involved in the incident.

Multiple sources were used to write the incident report - if you really want to ask questions then come see me at Brento or send me a PM.
