i think that is pretty spot on. everything BASE is a personal choice. thanks for sharing that, hadn't seen it before.

Wow....one of the best articles I've read relating to BASE. Everything written in the article is absolutely spot on for me. I jumped hard for 5 years at many locations all over the globe. I walked, talked, ate, drank, slept, shit....BASE. It was my entire life. I remember the many times I would tell myself and friends that I'd never quit jumping.

I retired back in late 2007 but still think about it everyday. It was a great choice but something that will always be with me.

Very well written article Rich.

Same here. except retired in 2012.

It was a good ride, but I knew what my outcome would have been based on my personality. I had a tendency to make a poor choice now and again, and that's not a good thing to have in this sport, especially in wingsuits...

I jumped with the editor I think in 2011-12 I found him to be very intelligent most likely why he don't jump anymore , most of us don't have any brains WinkWink

I actually remember your last jump (BD right?). My Dad was working the accuracy contest, and he told me about some dude that stomped the target and retired on the spot!

I had been weighing the decision for about a year before I had a pretty significant accident. Waking up days later to my family was not something I thought I could put them through again. I talked to a few other retired guys and decided to sell my gear. I still miss it sometimes, but overall I'm happy with the call. I'm still friends with mostly jumpers, and being with them was always more powerful than the actual jumping portion.

That said- I wouldn't change a thing. BASE was a really big part of my life for a long time, and played a big part in turning me into who I am now. I felt a lot more invincible at 19! Just time to try something new I guess. (Retired 10-2015)

Yup. I actually was in Arizona in January base jumping, and didn't quite feel it. I knew my retirement was on the horizon when I had more reasons not to jump then to jump.

I took from then till bridge day off, planning to retire. I even took a non jumping trip to Switzerland, which I enjoyed. It was then I knew that bridge day was going to be my last jump. Stomping the accuracy after 9 months of not making a jump was icing on the cake, so it made my last jump perfect.

I am thoroughly happy with my time in the sport, yeah I miss some of the cool lines that are being flown, but I know it's not to be, and that's ok.

Re: [jdatc] Found this trolling the boards on Spacebook
That is really awesome.

I started about 2.5 years ago and have no plans to quit, but I often think about how I will leave the sport as I know it will have to stop one way or another.
When I do stop jumping I want it to be like that. :)
