Fabric sewn into tailpocket? - OPINIONS
Hi everyone,

couple of weekends ago i met a french jumper in lauterbrunnen who showed me a modification to his tailpocket. He had 2 or 3 sheets of F111 or similar feeling (thin/light) fabric sewn at the top of the tailpocket. He used it as "separator" between the figure 8 stows.
Obviously the benefit is that it helps to keep the figure 8s clean and nicely separated and takes away any friction between line stows that are pulled out and the ones below it.
I couldnt think of any disadvantages or possible problems these light sheets could cause.
Unforfunately i dont have any pictures of the setup but hope i could describe it well enough.

What are your thoughts about it?
Thanks
Flo

any reason why not every tailpocket comes like this from the manufacturer? is the advantage not measurable?

i would think these pieces of fabric would be more of a reminder to properly place stows. They might stop the chance of two loops of line from going over one another while sitting in the tail pocket, but I'm really not sure how much of an issue that is. It would seem that even moderately careful stowing of lines would perform the same function. Skydiving reserve lines are (for the vast majority at least) free stowed, sit for months at a time, and still seem to come out just fine the majority of the time. I would consider this modification to be more a personal preference than anything that would add significant safety, so therefore unlikely to make it into mass production.

My student did this mod. I didnt like it because of the extra weight. but has worked along with not having it. it makes sense if one doesnt count the weight.I posted photos some where on BJ.com. the pro and cons...hmmm, cons are that the extra weight puts the bridle inline with the tp as opposed to not doing the inline thingy. I could not see any benefit over without. But if it makes you feel safer,I will give you the German website that built it for him.
Take care,

Probably due to the fact that there has been hundreds of thousands (if not millions) jumps performed with the traditional tail pocket without any issues (that this mod would fix). So why add complexity that fixes an issue which statistically is not there to the system ?
