Base abused for suicide?
Since I started jumping and to read the bfl I question myself if there are any „dark thoughts” involved.
Personally I had suicide in my thoughts, that was before I started jumping, now I think the moment where you made the decision to leave the ground and then doing so is a much smarter way, which also moves the life/death decision to fate.
Basejumping is a very „egoistic” thing, do you think there are entries in the bfl, of people who decided to die on that jump? Or do you have or had thoughts in that direction?

Easy

Yes, i had and still have suicidal thoughts. No I would never leave with an base accident. Could never ever leave let others think i did a mistake.

Crazy

I have always been searching for a reason to live, and such as base have been a great way to feel alive, and have to goals and dreams. The older I get, the more reasons to live without doing extreme things, and enjoy small things in life, or discover other normal things to do.

If there is any suicides on the list? I do not want to speculate in that matter. I know for sure, many jump as it is their last jump every time, others once and awhile to boooz up life a bit.

I think it's a stupid question.

Everyone has different drives (and even each of those is always changing, evolving) and motivations for BASE. Some like the light, free feeling...the simplicity and elegance...some the powerful, independent responsibility for your own actions and the magnifying glass it puts on you under, from which you prove that you know your limits and what you're capable of. Some people like to push themselves harder than others. Has anyone on the BFL went in because they pushed themselves too far / too fast and, if their life had been going differently maybe they wouldn't have pushed so hard? I think it's chock full of that. Dwain comes to mind most vividly.

Do I think someone would BASE jump with the intent to not survive it? No. That makes absolutely no sense. Do I think someone might BASE jump well outside what is considered safe or even reasonable due to a dangerous cocktail of dark brooding thoughts, narrowed perspective, and lapsed judgement? Most definitely...I've seen it happen quite a bit

Interestingly that you bring this up. After looking after the BFL list for numerous years and studied it more then I can think ..

There is quite a lot of base jumpers with mental health problems and if you look in the gone but not forgotten list you can see a few suicide and deaths from mentally ill health in jumpers..

I don't know about intentionally jumping to kill themselves but I'm sure theres a few jumpers (Jeb comes to mind, I think he mentioned it in an interview) that they don't care if they live or die, or at least felt that way at one point in their jumping career, which led them to make really dangerous jumps. I'm sure a hand full of those jumps had much higher risk of death or serious injury than surviving it. They either made it through that period and became really good at it (sketchy low stuff, multiple fast aerials, insane terrain flying) or went in and everyone else just looked at it as they were depressed and/or pushing the limits too far.

BASEabused for suicide? Idiots... Everybody knows you abuse BASE for Pussy, drugs, and fame. this is a simple recipe. Get high, BASE jump, get laid, and then you are famous like Andy Lewis and can stick your nose up at everyone because they don't walk on a stupid tight rope. Wow you can balance on a rope, we look up to you soooo much, you are so professional, I bet all your sponsors would like to know you are such a poser that you need to make urself feel better by trying to embarrass someone with a personality disorder, psychosis, PTSD, and major depressive disorder when he was just trying to be nice and say hello. At least you can kind of BASE jump now, your early videos are dreadful and pathetic flailing limbs everywhere. You fuckers think you are so special, well now you have made an enemy for life. Death will be in Moab next year, wandering the hills with a scythe and angry heart of vengeance. Luckily it's close to Halloween and a reaper costume won't be hard to come by.
P.S. All would have been forgiven if your green didn't suck, I don't fuck with Schwag Nononono, if she smells like Swiss my nigga dont serve it. The sky keep on fallin, the drugs keep on callin, I don't wanna buy Nono, your shit won't get me high oh no. I'm trapped in my conscious, gonna need to call up my pharmacist. Luckily I have prescription weed, Xanax, and throat syrup. Winning!

My friend was a BASE jumper who pulled a trigger on himself. Right after his suicide there were enormous amount of negative talks amongst "FB friends". That almost made me wish that he went in Base jumping instead.

However, killing yourself Base jumping or skydiving would be very difficult isn't? Maybe some are just secretly asking for accidental death? In a mean time they are enjoying that dopamine rush, and carry on with their life?

If you put some thought into it, no-one will ever know if it was a suicide or just a case of "shit happens". And I'd be really surprised if some of the fatalities that occured were just that, well thought-out ways to leave without bothering anyone more than there needed to be and too many questions to be asked.
