I deleted my original question, because if I were to cost a good businessman even ONE customer due to my misinformed question, then I would be a jerk and I would feel terrible.

I first suspected that someone hijacked a jumper's pictures and started a website to make some quick cash. Now that I know it really exists, I feel bad for even asking the question.

One curious question I had is if the site intentionally doesn't list the instructor profiles due to the stigma of BASE being delicately legal in only a few areas. I never would have doubted the site if I saw an instructor profile on the site.

Anyway, I am stoked to see so many ways to become a safer BASE jumper.

I've been involved teaching BASE here in Twin Falls on-going since 2005.

I try to stay off these forums as much as I can. This may be the last post you see from me personally, and those that know me are in shock to see this one at all I'm sure.

Miles and Sean are good friends of ours, in fact Chuma first got his tandem rating while working at one of my DZ's. We've had tons of fun in past years and expect to have more together. Miles and I occasionally even get to bump into each other picking up our kids who attend the same kindergarten. If someone doesn't take our FJC we recommend Sean Chuma or Miles Daisher. They're both super talented jumpers but can be away quite often on movie shoots and other exciting adventures.

At Twin Falls BASE, we take care of students for BASE Manufacturers and last year took good care of the FJC at Bridge Day 2015 in West Virginia.

El Cap was my first "E" and my 2nd object. I hope that experience for all our course attendees.

I co-invented TandemBASE, coming up with the design principle for the TBX canopy and prototyping with Apex and later Stane at Atair. We, with TreeJumps, built the containers in our loft.

Some other accomplishments on the Twin Falls BASE team include parachute rigging on Transformers 3, several invite only BASE events around the world including the opening of the Balinghe Bridge in China, and a few trips to USPA Nationals smashing canopies in CRW (now "CF").

It's a legit question. How much integrity does a man have who would do that over a petty business dispute? Is that the kind of person you'd want teaching you to base jump? Someone who would gloat in obvious delight over another man's death?

Gotta agree with Chris on this one. I've known him for quite some time. And the other individuals who have come fwd too are stand up guys.

It is probably a general rule to not keep company with those who take delight in the death of another person. Not to mention saying something to his wife.

Per the usual dropzone.com style, this thread has been hijacked and turned into a flame.

At anyrate, so everyone has the facts straight and their opinions based on reality here is the history. I don't mind if you don't like my opinion, just like Mario & Steph didn't mind ripping people off and lying to their faces.

1) Mario asked to get trained and work for us at TandemBASE.
2) Mario worked for us at BridgeDay.
3) Mario called asking to "borrow" a tandembase rig so he can do a special jump with Steph. We didn't mind at all.
4) We came to find out that Mario went behind our backs, lied to Atair about his affiliation with us, and ordered one of our design TBX canopies and had our container copied stitch for stitch
5) Tree and I argued internally, where I stood up for Mario saying that there's no way he's ripping us off.
6) We have a skype conversation with Mario about the whole thing, he tells us he didn't think we'd mind and it's a big misunderstanding and that we're operating in different markets, he apologizes,etc.
7) We have to put the call on hold and by simple mistake press Mute instead of Hold, blacking out his screen but still allowing us to hear and see him.
8) All of a sudden we here Steph's voice and their conversation about "F*** those guys ,we'll do what we want, I don't care who developed anything we're getting some too".

And then Mario happened to go in.

I made a post online saying that he got what he deserved and good riddance. A bit harsh? Probably. Have you ever been betrayed by your supposed friends? Anyway is it worthy of such anger from Chris years later? I don't think so but that's his emotional problem not mine.

Lane- Long time! You're absolutely right in principle- All of Mario's experience and talent as a jumper doesn't make him a good person. That goes for Steph too. Both are/were selfish con-artists while very talented athletes.

MrAW- There's always been a picture of me on the About Us Page, kiting a Mojo-280 in front of the Washington Monument, right next to the picture of Marc rotating in a gainer off The Perrine. That picture has been my profile picture for >10 years.

I'm not here worried about defending myself. I still feel the same way about both of them and will always call it as I sees it. When Hillary Clinton goes to jail or dies, I'll come out of posting retirement and say something then too.

It's not like I lit a less experienced jumper's parachute on fire, killed him, lied about it, and went on vacation instead of the funeral.

How about a little balance- We've taught a local Sheriff here to BASE Jump. Organized the first Perrine Bridge Clean Up and subsequent events. We maintain an excellent personal relationship with local law enforcement, politicians, and chamber of commerce. Pulled jumpers from the canyon and taken them to emergency services. And we've never, or would ever, ripped anyone off or stole from another jumper or anyone else for that matter.

Stolen money and business is a good reason to be pissed at someone. That happens a lot, all the time, in every aspect of life/business. I would never fault someone for being pissed about that, and it's really shitty that it happened. Mario/Steph were wrong to do that.

I harbor no anger Abbie. You can talk shit about me all you like after I go in. Gloat about it, celebrate it, whatever. But if my wife were to receive multiple direct messages days after my death while she is in the most difficult part of mourning I would hope that my friends would never let you forget that.

I had no previous ill feeling towards Abbie before this incident at all, thought he was a great guy, but I'm sure even he will admit he lost a lot of friends and respect of the base community from this, and rightfully so.

Imagine someone calling your mother after you die and while she is having what is probably the worst moment of her entire life and having someone say, "stupid cunt got what she deserved". That's fucked up on a level that I couldn't even comprehend. I've had people I don't like die, I might have even thought, well, that sucks but I'm not sad, but to go out of your way to contact a grieving family member? FUCKED UP!

1. All the bickering, politicking, lying and stealing that goes on is a fair part of the reason I'm not active anymore. BASE lost its purity long, long, long ago.

I don't know if there was some sort of memorial at the Perrine that he is referring to, but the family funeral was a very small, private, family-only service that no one from the jump community was invited to, and Tom would not have been welcome at Elsinore's memorial day.


3. Back in the early 80's at Perris, there was this guy, Tommy Owens, who ran the gear store with his wife. Whenever something went missing, such as somebody's altimeter, frappe hat, jumpsuit or whatever, Tommy would get on the PA and announce it and ask everyone to be on the lookout for it. And he would always say, "And if somebody stole it, and you can hear me, I HOPE YOU GO IN!!"

I always liked that guy.

Yah I'm sorry for getting riled up too. The answer is that yes that is a real base school run by very competent and experienced jumpers.

And as my last post on this thread, I'd like to apologize to caviator who reminded me that she has 4000 skydives in addition to her 64 BASE jumps in 3 years, so that makes her a much more experienced and competent base jumper. So silly of me ;)

Apology accepted. I am happy you recognize how much skydives count too, for canopy piloting, air awareness, tracking skills and the like. Anybody who think skydives don't count is foolish, is gut that you are not one of them.

Some people think Abbie is an asshole. Which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But even some of those same people have agreed that we provide solid and dependable instruction.

I love jumping in Twin Falls and want it to continue indefinitely. Regardless of things that might have put jumping the bridge in jeopardy, Abbie, Sean, Miles, Jamie B, and I work with city and county leaders to keep things copacetic.
