birthday jump ideas?
bridle and PC connected by brake-line to a balloon hovering above at the EP.

why?
no hands FF exit on low objects
and its your birthday why not let everyone know, with a party balloon!

has anyone experimented?

seems like there could be a problem with the PC inflation ....due to a balloon collapsing it...and thus creating not enough pull force.

Its been done. Couldnt find the vid. Looked like Moab.

There's video on line.

You can solve this by putting the balloon inside the PC.

That's a foolish idea. Any balloon inside the PC with enough volume to accomplish the original poster's intent will dramatically degrade the PC's snatch and drag forces. It will consume the volume of the PC, offset the symmetry, and effectively make it aerodynamic.

Idiocy. Pure idiocy to suggest this.

Or are you suggesting he use hydrogen? In which case...nevermind.

Attaching a PC to your brake line will probably cause a line over.
Another idea is to jump in your birthday suit.

Did he mean brake or break - big difference?

80lb break-line cord*

I highly recommend that you do not attach the break line cord to your brake line.
Thanks for pointing out my error.

Helium is probably a better (and more easily available) choice than hydrogen.

I'm curious if you've drag tested a PC with a helium balloon in it? It sounds like you have. What kind of drag force differences did you measure?

How about staying alive for your birthday ?

That might be a great way to spend it... don't you agree?

One of the guys giving advice is a guy that brought down a person by a flare gun or something... To make it special.. burning canopy and all. That didn't turn too well did it?!

By all means i'm not saying don't base jump. Just jump smart.
Don't be pressured in doing something special - stupid, just cuz it's your birthday.

Just food for thought.

Ha. Nailed it.

And just when the thread was getting good, two other posts get deleted.

As for the drag forces of a balloon in a PC, it's a pointless experiment.

The larger the volume of the balloon, the more surface area of the underside of the PC it will block, replacing a concave surface relative to the airspeed with a convex one. Add to that, with the centerline of the PC, the PC will lose symmetry as the balloon will be off to the side and the remaining fabric will be deformed.

But go ahead, Tom. I'm sure you'll be as thorough as you ever are with your experiments and analysis.

Yup. That's it.

Didn't sound like advice or a suggestion about the balloon inside the PC. Sounded like a stupid off the top of your head comment about a stupid off the top of your head post. I'd think that anyone doing this would test out their ideas before jumping it. But carry on with the bullshit.

Re: [colsco] birthday jump ideas?
How large of a helium filled balloon would be needed to suspend a light weight pilot chute? It would actually work If the pilot chute was much larger than the balloon.

Since I don't have helium handy, and won't be getting any anytime soon, I won't be experimenting in my living room before heading out to the power towers

Re: [E-Rach] birthday jump ideas?
It takes way more balloons than you think. I watched someone try it with 6 or 7 balloons last time I was in twin falls and that wouldn't support the weight of a 42" and bridal. They ended up throwing the PC up with the balloons as they jumped to get the picture.

Re: [DanielRjumps] birthday jump ideas?
Not really. Pilot chutes are a lot heavier than balloons. It was a fun theory to piss off my friend Collin. :)

Re: [clandestino] birthday jump ideas?
thank you Clandestion! that would be it,
i assume it worked,
but take my own tests!

-cheers

i guess 4' ish similar sized balloons inside a PC would work kinda?? outside the box idea, but interesting none the less.

Re: [E-Rach] birthday jump ideas?
It would have to be a very light pilot chute, and a bridle made out of spectra or similar.. You could build an inflatable portion into a pilot chute too.

Basically it probably isn't worth the effort.

Next time. I'm a little busy. Tongue My break is over. I have to finish a Skydive reserve so the owner can jump it tomorrow.

Re: [E-Rach] birthday jump ideas?
It was my birthday recently so did a 265' go and throw, threw off a balloon and followed it. Wore a badge on my chest strap too but it flew off in freefall.
