What's ya batting average?
So after Miles hitting 4,000+ jumps
DTM with 200 different B's and plenty of people with some pretty impressive jump and object numbers, what sort of batting averages do you all have?
Batting average is No. of jumps DIVIDED BY No. of objects.
Do the maths yourself you lazy bastards.

Re: [jools] What's ya batting average?
Five months in, not big numbers yet. But...
8 objects
55 jumps
5 solo object evaluations and solo jumps from them
36 solo jumps
17 walk aways/climb downs
2 detainings by police
1 ticket
Haven't jumped stowed, aside from Idaho bridge.
12 handheld jumps
6 stowed jumps
3 PCA jumps
34 static line jumps
Highest jump - 330', aside from Idaho bridge
Lowest jump - 126'
2 broken ribs
1 bruised heel
1 ripped bridle

Living the dream.

I'm to lazy to follow up my log book. I stopped loging my jumps about 3 years ago. Sometimes I regret it and I don't get to brag about jump numbers anymore because I don't know it...

Re: [Mikki_ZH] What's ya batting average?
One of the best pieces of advice I ever got when I started jumping was to keep a detailed log book. Ive got a little blurb in a word document about every jump Ive done. Its nice to be able to look back and relive some good memories. I probably take it a bit too far and have every object in a spread sheet and know how many jumps are on every wingsuit and canopy I own.

Jools you might appreciate this one for example ;)

"7/11/13. Radison Tallinn.  Sketchy ass PCA from a 200ish foot balcony at the radison.  Went first followed by french Julien who pounded in and hurt his ankle, and brit Julien who almost hit a tree and pounded in.  Rami was supposed to go last but security who was on the balcony above came down and grabbed him."

Batting average is jumps/objects.

Re: [Ronald] What's ya batting average?
I don't know, 1:1 is not bad if you have more than 100 jumps..

You must have one of the better batting averages Ronald?

Oh and I have updated the original post,

Re: [jools] What's ya batting average?
I feel like this could be divided into a few different groupings since the first few hundred jumps you rack up a ton of new objects since they are all new! Also, the new object pool on earth becomes smaller the more objects you jump. I just pulled these numbers out of thin air but if there is no rebuttal then they stand as law even if they make no sense! Tongue

1-100 jumps - things are new and you are just learning. New objects are the norm.
good average = < 2.5?

101-500 - New objects are still plentiful if you are doing any scouting and moderate travel.
good average = < 3.5?

501-1000 - New objects start to be harder to find. More extensive national travel is required.
good average = <5

1001-2000 - Most decent objects within a few hour drive have been hit at least once. International travel is required to get new sites.
Good average = <7

2001-3000 - You've hit most of the big name sites around the world. You start looking at the old "non-jumpable" sites as viable options for new objects.
Good average = <9

3001-4000 - The only new objects are the ones that are under construction or newly built.
Good average = <12

4001-5000 - No new objects on earth. Interplanetary travel is required for new objects.
Good average = <1.1

5000+ - Intergalactic travel is required for new objects.

Judge Jason has spoken!!!

I think a lot will depend on how low (or high) you are prepared to go as well as location. But what you say makes sense to a point. Due to Benidorm event (The Bali hotel is my most jumped object with 18 off it) and getting lazy, I have slipped to a 1.9 average.

I think you could start here an interesting semantic discussion on the definition of "object", especially related to cliff jumps. How far apart do the exits need to be to be considered as separate objects? Or how would you define that in other terms? There is no right or wrong answer here but would be interesting to hear how people log their objects. I´ve defined it to my self so that if there are 2 exits on the same cliff that have significantly different jump profiles, I would count that as 2 different objects. For example, having a wall which has a 10 sec rock drop exit and 4 sec rock drop (with gigantic ledge underneath) I would classify that as 2 objects.

Having said that, for example the jumps in the Swiss valley (even though they have slightly different jump profiles) I have logged so that
- All exits on the nose = 1 object (the nose)
- All exits on Murren (HU, Ultimate, all exits along the via ferrata) = 1 object (Murren)
- All exits on La Mousse = 1 object (La Mousse)

In Kjerag I have logged all exits on Smellveggen as 1 object and exits 5-7 as 1 object. Never jumped the nbr 4 but would log that probably as a different object from the others.

With that definition, my numbers currently are 1681 jumps and 288 (30/37/26/161/34) objects so that would give me 5.84 average. Following the BASEx definition by the doc, I would have BASE x 26. What I have always wanted to do is to try to have a jump in as many countries as possible, it is always interesting to meet new people and see new stuff.

490, maybe 20 objects

Re: [maretus] What's ya batting average?
That's some pretty impressive figures.

To start another object discussion, how many of your A's had 3 or more wires?

Not been to the Valley or Norway but I think most people will have a fairly similar idea to you regarding exit or object.

Re: [jools] What's ya batting average?
I'm used to have few jumps per year, mostly because I've got 2 wonderful daughters to care about in my free time and no school objects (i.e. easy access or easy to be jumped frequently at my skills level) nearby my area.
So my total is 228 in 3.5 years with 60 different and unique objects.
Which means 3.8ish average.
Jumping so little has the pro to get a better average if you focus on new objects. But as time passes by, you have to travel further and spend more time for new ones.
Finding the right balance between family, work, jumps, new objects, your buddies, your limits, is the key for happiness!
I guess it's hard to be found, I'm still looking for it, but the journey seems to be rewarding enough.

Re: [1687] What's ya batting average?
That's about 5 jumps a month. I'd say that's pretty active for someone without easy access.

Re: [1687] What's ya batting average?
Quality not quantity if you ask me! Never been a fan of thrashing the same object over and over again.

The past couple years I have been in a similar boat with work and family.

Now that you asked, I checked my log book and counted them and out of my 37 A´s, 18 are freestanders so that means 19 are with 3 wires. I´ve logged only transmitter A´s as A´s so all my powertowers, cranes etc are logged in the O´s (along with dams, wind turbines, chimneys etc). And this opens a whole new door for a huge semantic discussion. :)

Re: [jools] What's ya batting average?
I've always tried to jump new objects, it's the thing that really gives me a kick and keeps my fear to a level where i hope i don't get complacent. The problem with this low batting average concept is that it leaves very little room for learning new skills or developing and testing existing ones. Someone who jumps object after object is, by virtue of that fact, more often than not being overloaded with something new (new visuals, new exit point, new landing area) and this assault of newness tends to mean you never get to play or experiment on a jump. It's hard enough even working out if you've dialled in your dbs on a canopy when every other jump is a whole new bombardment of stimuli, never mind having the time or awareness to try out different angles of approach or work out exactly where your stall point is.
I would love to have a Perrine down the road from me. I'd use it to develop my skill sets as a jumper, do object avoidance drills, rebuild my confidence and sort out some body position issues which i simply can not do perched on some sketchy 8ft glass wall exit point with a crane tower just off to the left, a hoist to the right, a lampost lined street to land in, buses and taxis to avoid and security to flee.
I love the style of low batting average jumps i do, but honestly, a nice big bridge with nothing to slam into after an off-heading and a lovely big landing area would be nice every now and then.

Who knows i might learn something new!

Oh and 510 / 185 = 2.75 average.

Best get packed for France then soft lad ;)
Best of both worlds.

Re: [sabre210] What's ya batting average?
My object criteria is that is its a separate named exit, approach, and landing, it can be a separate object. I think I count them more as separate for logging and for memories than anything. I wont argue with anyones particular way they define an object.

I decided to look through my object vs numbers a little more in depth. Its interesting that though I feel like I have a good amount of objects, I do have a lot of jumps off a few particular ones. If I take my top 19 most jumped objects away, I wind up with 478/300 = 1.6. Overall as above is 6.5 though. Most jumps off one object 734 (not the perrine).

9 years, 2 months, 18 days since my first jump.

549 jumps from 172 objects. 3.19/1

Most active years were the first 3, in which I did over 100 jumps per year, but more objects came about in later years, as i grew tired of the same ol A's and B's, and traveled more.

I've only jumped in 6 countries (USA, Mexico, Bahamas, Italy, Switzerland, and France), and in 17/50 US States, though only have BASE in 2 states (TX, CA)

Top 19? Strange number to pluck out the air.
Without double checking, I think it would put me sub 1.1 -1 if I removed My top 19 objects.
I have very few with more than 3 jumps and only 3 objects in double figures.
