Re: [Hanzo] Miles Daisher - 4000 jumps
Back in the day, it was considered equally important as to how many objects, and types of objects that you did. A guy had 100 jumps from Auburn Bridge, but he hadn't traveled across the southwest opening up new cliffs.
I remember when there were 6 or so who had over 100 jumps. Phil Smith (#1), always had more than anyone. Mark Hewitt was catching him, and made a trip to a 350' bridge that we all did, doing something like 20 jumps in a weekend with help from packers. Hewitt was no slouch, but Smitty had done it all.
So it isn't all about numbers. If he had 3000 off of the Perrine, I don't think that that was as much of an accomplishment as the guy with the most objects.
We always struggled with this very thing, even at the beginning.
I'm not knocking his achievement, but if someone is close, yet has crazy good experience in all forms of jumping, including lots of terminal objects, well, the latter would get as much respect.
So don't go rack up 500 jumps from the Perrine and think it is as big of a deal as a guy with 100 jumps off of 40 objects of all kinds. We thought it was important to travel and do all types of objects.
We didn't like the shorties...the 350-ish footers. They required little skill. We avoided them for the most part. We would do them, but we didn't concentrate on them.
