New York City
Hey All,
I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of months now, reading up on anything I could get my hands on, and checking out incident footage/reports.

I was wondering if there's anyone in the NYC area who'd be willing to let me ground crew or assist in any way. I just want to assist and learn, and can say that I have a knack for clandestine action and gaining access to locations.

I will probably be taking the trip out to Twin Falls, but would love to connect with any individuals or crews in the meantime to observe and provide support in any way I can. Not necessarily asking for any specific mentorship (I know that's a lot), would just love to be around the sport in any capacity and learn what I can.

Have been having jump dreams on a consistent basis for some time now. Can help out with whatever needed.

Edit: In the case that these skills could be considered useful, I am trained as a medic and know my way around a lockpick set

How many skydives do you have?

NYPD undercover? LOL......

I am an ex-cop, and I'd suggest a little more time building rapport before asking to tag along. Just saying!

Seriously dude, you will love Tom's course.....

These guys may be looking for new ground crew?

Unless there's something I'm not aware of, I don't think the NYPD has any motivation to put out feelers in or 'infiltrate' this community.

I have no solo skydives as of yet. Yes I know. Putting it out there because I am passionate about learning as much as I can, traditional learning sequence notwithstanding, and you never know right?

Ehhh...around here you pretty much know. See you in 200 skydives yo. Enjoy the ride!

Re: [bluhdow] New York City
To be clear I am not asking for any type of training, just the opportunity to ground crew

I doubt you will get any takers:

Reason #1

Your Skipping SKY jumping thread. Unsure

Reason #2

NYC has specific laws against BASE.

If you've been reading the replies you're getting from experienced BASE jumpers you'll have learned that you can accomplish all of these things at the dropzone, and getting canopy experience.

Wadding yourself up under an object after skipping steps is a great way to get ostracized from this microscopically small community.

There actually is something you are not aware of..... but that's OK.

If you really want to ground crew some BASE jumpers, go out for beers and be the designated driver.... It's the same concept really -- we go in, we come out, and you drive us home!

Honestly bro, it's how I got my start! Cheers!

I'd be up for that. Thought that qualified as ground crew.

My apologies to this original poster in advance but...

Why in holly hell do people who have never seen or even flown a parachute post about how badly they want to get in.

How do you know you will like it?
Will you be able to handle it?

For the love of god, go skydive and come back here in a few hundred jumps or years.

Cant run till you learn to walk. No shortcuts in this game. Put your money where your mouth/ thoughts are and go to a bloody drop zone.

Is there any way we can lock this site and have some sort of application process to get in. Seriously though. Tom?? I understand that beginners need information and education but we have all seen this post a million times throughout the years. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills (in the words of Zoolander)

I also lurked for a while on this site but then woke up one day and realized that it does nothing. Knowledge is power but you eventually just have to shut up and learn to become a skydiver first. Who knows, you might like it. I was obsessed with base and saw skydiving as an annoying stepping stone. Enjoy the journey my friend. I had a bad attitude towards skydiving. Its so lame. Base is way cooler. BLAH BLAH BLAH. 8 years later and I find myself with a deeper respect for both sports now (became a Tandem Instructor, coach) and want to give back. I started base after a few hundred jumps and looking back on it now, realize how ill prepared I was. Seriously, 200 jumps??? A lot of people still don't know shit at that point. Cant set up a three ring, downwind landings, cross wind landings, accuracy, flying backwards....jesus fuck, the list goes on.

Pretty much dumb luck, that i didnt get hurt in base at first. I can say that now because I don't give a rats ass what anyone thinks.

200 jumps is the minimum. key word here is MINIMUM. again....MINIMUM

the truth is you should probably have closer to 500 skydives. Become a competent canopy pilot first.

(deep breath)...ok thats my rant. I have one about every five years or so.

Carry on ya fucks

I love you all
