What is your best BASE memory?
So I'm new to BASE, but one of my favorite parts of this sport so far has been the awesome people I have met along the way and the even crazier stories I have heard them share regarding some of their most memorable jumps.

I thought it would be interesting to hear from the regulars on this forum about their most memorable or favorite jumping stories.

I would share mine, but all my jumps so far have been off the Perrine and nothing that anyone would find too interesting lol.

I'm extremly new to the sport, just 3 jumps so not too much to share. But the best was that after we jumped a highway bridge where we had to run about 300 meters on the emergency lane we got away without being caught, although the cop car drove past me hiding low in the car (which was parked just below the bridge) only about 2 meters from me. Soon after they were past me i drove off high speed and hid about 2km away in a driveway. Just saw them rushing past full speed without seeing me, they probably spottet me in the back mirror leaving though below the bridge but took them some time to turn around. Although we got caught on my third jump there ;-)

Here is one of many:

2009, just landed from jumping the Damai Wall at the
Batu Caves in Malaysia, it was my first E, it completed
BASE for me, it was early so my wife and the taxi driver
were the only two people around when I started going up.
By the time I jumped some local young kids had come out
to watch, I landed on the soccer field, the kids gave me
high fives and laughed at me. Soon as we got back
to the Regency Hotel we started celebrating. Beer

I started base jumping when I lived in Japan. Scouting the countryside for objects was the best way I can possibly imagine to explore the country. I saw so many sides of not just Tokyo but suburbs and rural areas, that your typical gaijin never experiences. Even if I spent an entire day looking for objects but came up empty-handed, it was still an entire day immersed in a really interesting country.

BASE has been really good to me, everywhere I've gone... hard to single out the good stories. And Perrine trips have been no less exciting because of it all.

As stated before, its hard to single out any one of hundreds if not thousands of awesome experiences.

One that sticks out a lot for me was the experience of jumping from a moving freight train with my good friend and mentor, Mr 460.

I would say though, I've had just as much fun wingsuiting and engaging the urban environment, as well as meeting lots of cool people around the world...

I don't have many jumps but still, I'll always remember hiking up Monte Brento in crisp early November weather, seeing the sun come up to melt the first morning frost off the fields, lighting the limestone up in that beautiful golden color. Awesome, in the true sense of the word.

I've not got many jumps myself but a fun/sketchy/memorable jump for me was my first B, a 175' apartment block.
Access to the roof was fairly easy but it had a wall around it about 8' high, presumably to stop people jumping off; we 'borrowed' the ladder from the dropzone we use to get in the back of the caravan (ironically), to get on top of the wall.

So we geared up and clipped in, tying off on one of the light fittings on top, we then climbed the ladder (which was too short) and found ourselves kneeling on top of the narrow wall looking at the landing area below. The landing area was the road so we had to wait for traffic to clear before jumping, I looked up one way, my mate looked up the other, gave each other the all clear and now there was no time to hesitate.

I had lost the ability to stand up, it's funny how you lose your sense of balance on an exit point, but I made it and jumped! Crack, canopy open, bring it round to the right and land on the road. Started gathering up my gear as my buddy jumped and landed next to me.

Now this B was in a less priveleged part of the city so the next thing we see are a couple of crack heads come running across the road telling us we had jumped past their window, they loved it and it was pretty funny in the end.

Great jump.

It involves a large iconic tower in Paris, and a now dead friend who I often see flying a yellow wingsuit from KL on the frontpage of this site. Bittersweet.

My naked 100th back in October. Just before the end of my first year of BASE jumping.
Naked climb up my favourite freestander, nothing but nylon, boots, and a helmet.
I was only a couple of feet too high to land my taint on groundcrew's head

The Perrine is a really cool place Wink I dont have a lot of jumps either but one of the best was definitly my first round into water. This really nice guy who lended me the rig said, minimum 3 maximum 4 seconds. Did like 2,5 kicking like a little girl, still one of the most rewarding jumps i've ever done.

These are all awesome stories, thank you to everyone for sharing. I made my first trip to Moab a few weeks ago so for now my best BASE memory is definitely that trip. The jumps were amazing, but the hiking/climbing and awesome people I met while I was out there made the jumps the icing on the cake. Can't wait to go back!
