which fullface helmet do you prefer
i'm looking for a fullface helmet with a big amount of protection and a max weight of 1 kg. it would be nice when it doesn't ruin the glide ratio. any experience with the airoh aviator?

Da hab ich einen Vergleich für dich:
Mountainbike - Basejumping
Rennrad - WingsuitBasejumping

I wear a triple eight
You will need to modify the visor as it pops open with the shock from terminal. I drilled a hole in the visor and put some velcro from the visor to the front of the mouth piece

@ beaserius
i know that a offroad helmet isn't the best for the the glide ratio. but i like to wear a full face helmet with the highest protection level and don't find another one with max 1 kg. it would by nice to know how big is the difference in the glide ratio or which full face helmet is a better choice.

@dadsy
i would remove the visor. which 888 helmet do you use? did it have a big influence to the glide ratio?

Re: [Dadsy] which fullface helmet do you prefer
or just remove the visor... take that snag hazard off! hahahaha

Re: [heavy] which fullface helmet do you prefer
my skydiving helmet would be useless in any real impact they have no shock absorption and wouldnt be any help in a low impact fall or even skateboarding accident,,,,my tonfly is just a thin expensive bit of shit thats only real purpose is to hold a camera,,,and they all look gay,,,id take a proper skateboard helmet for base anyday there made for protection and cheap but have approvals ratings etc....but yeh not full face,,,maybe look at paragliding types? or maybe bmx have lightweight full face moto styles

Re: [Skez] which fullface helmet do you prefer
a google search for 888 helmets bring me to full face longboard helmets. not so many protection as a motorcycle helmet but more than a normal skateboard helmet and a very good aerodynamic. if offroad helmets are way to bad for the aerodynamic i go for a full face longboard helmet.

100% dont use a motorbike helmet they are too heavy, you will hurt yourself

you are overthinking the aerodynamics

Personally I think effect on glide ratio shouldn't even be a factor in buying a full face when first getting into the sport. A slight difference in helmet shape won't give you that extra edge to stay alive in the sport. Buy a helmet for protection first, learn how to get optimal performance out of your other gear, then when you are actually at the point where a helmet is holding you back from your top performance then look into it.
Chances are that your ability to use your body, brain, track suit, wingsuit, etc. will have a larger affect on glide ratio than a helmet.

this is right... it's my aim to survive. what's about the weight? is 1 kg / 2.2 lbs to much?

I use 661 Comp (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cz/en/661-comp-helmet-2014/rp-prod113734 but older model, with removed shield) for everything from SD to terminal. saved my day.

pros: fits ok, lightweight, works, cheap
cons: slightly bulky to carry around in stashbag

I guess it depends (the weight).
First, it´s good that you think about protection..

If the aim is to survive, you may compare the risk of neckinjuries due to hard openings (SD?) and a heavy helmet to the risk of getting serious injured at your head due to hard contact with the object.
Ask yourself what kind of jumps are you intend to do and what is your performancelevel.
As a supposed beginner, I guess glide ratio is not the main issue.
So if the helmet is not to heavy and gives good protection (which MTX helmets usually do), check if the snag hazards are low and you feel comfortably. In my opinion, a helmet which may weigh a little more but fits better would be the better choice than the lighter one which doesn´t stay where it should.
at least, buy a bike as well and you have a double use ;-)

I think you would look like a tool. $500 seems crazy high and I cant see any info that they are impact rated. They do have a camera mount though
I did see a video of somebody wearing one at the KL jump

nice info... the 2014 661 comp weight 1.3 kg / 2.7 lbs (probably the older one isn´t much lighter) so 1kg / 2.2 lbs shouldn´t be a Problem :)

mx helmets have more snag hazards than a longboard helmet but i think the higher protection level is worth to add that risk. and i have a double use because i already have a downhill bike :) (but this doesn´t matter for the decision)

the current triple eight racer weight 1.05 kg / 2.3 lbs and all other longboard helmets are in this range.
