APEX LOBO - improve the steering ....
Hello guys
May be you have a good hint for me ..
I'm jumping with a brand new Apex LOBO, 350 square feet of pleasure ;)

I have to say that a part from my first impact with the ultra light material ( slippery) and the new design of the tail pocket ( really not easy to get used to ... but I'm improving ) the canopy is truly great in flaring.. no comparison at all with my old FLICK ( still I like it !).

Anyway, I find difficult the steering , as the canopy apparently turn really slow so that for now I found a good compromise with back risers but I'm wondering , which could be the cause ?
As mentioned the flare is great so in theory the break lines should be fine ... Or?

Any hint from LOBO users is welcome :)

Thanks

"flare is great" is subjective. Is the canopy fully shutting down when you pull down on the toggles completely? How much slack is in your lines with brakes set? is it deflecting the tail of the canopy at all? have you tried deeper toggle settings to deflect more tail?

Maybe it's flaring great b/c you have so much fabric overhead but your brakes aren't set correctly. best bet is to talk to an experienced skydiver about brake settings at the DZ and work on them at a tall bridge or forgiving object. good luck

350sqft? That's a big boy! Tongue How much do you weigh? I have 133 jumps on my Lobo 260 now and turning slow has never been an issue. The pressure on the steering lines is higher than what you are used to on your FLiK or any other canopy for that matter so you may need to get a little more aggressive with it. Have you skydived it at all to put its through its paces?

The flare is by far the best out of any canopy I have jumped.

I jump a Lobo 280. It responds great to toggle and riser input. What brake setting are you using? Do you have a slider on it?

I'm honestly very surprised to hear that. My experience with the Lobo was that it was extremely responsive (and has insanely powerful flare).

Have you moved the toggles up to the "slider down" setting and tried that? Any change in your experience?

Not sure what you mean here , did you mean to move physically the toggle to shorten up the break lines ? Or ...

I'm jumping slider down ( even if I leave the slider on the risers for convenience) factory break lines settings , 120 kg loaded on the jump .
About the slider still mounted even if not used I don't believe that this has an influence , or? ( break lines of course are set to slider down jump)

Well I compare the flare between flick and Lobo , for this I said it's much better .
Settings are still factory but I will put another brake setting deeper for slider down , I saw good benefits in a video I saw here in forum .

For now I'm still in testing phase , I can't say much because the canopy is just bought , but thanks for the inputs I will pay attention to that details and see the video done if they'll tell me more .

Every Lobo I've seen has had an extra toggle setting several inches higher than the end of the line, so that you can move the toggle up (without using the sliding knot system).

Does yours not have that?

Tom makes a good point. There are two toggle settings. The one at the end is for slider up. The one that is 6 inches higher is for slider down/off.

I have to be honest ,
I didn't notice such thing unless it totally passed unseen but I would say that it's quite weird if this is the case .

Guys can I ask you a favor ?
Could you take a picture of these settings and in reply to this post to upload it so that I can
In reply to:
have a visual reference ?

I will really appreciate this
Thanks

It looks basically just like a brake setting, but it's a different color. Or at least that's how it's been on the Lobos I've seen. It's constructed by looping a really long finger trap from the end of the line back up to create a lower 'brake setting' point below the actual brake settings.

Sweet! I will be there 3 times next year & I Love Pizza.

It would be weird if you didn't have it. Do me a favor, send a picture back of where it should be.

Hi,
Nope I don't have the possibility to move the toggles as for your image my break lines on LOBO Doesn't have such feature ... I will think about something else then :) .
Now I did a Ultra low jump , 40mts, with it and it is good for this stuff as well.. A little bit of more practice and then I will go to a rigger for the tuning :)

Thanks again for all , ciao

You can just use the sliding knot system to move the toggle wherever you want, if that helps.

Damn!
I think I am blind , now I found them, and I'll lock the toggles on the new position .
The lines were so new and perfect I missed , still can't say how this is possible ... Perfect!
Testing are going on .
