Killing sheep
In this article: http://www.blick.ch/...n-tod-id4231304.html the farmer claims wingsuit fliers scare the sheep in the Laurerbrunnen valley (The Gitschen). They get stressed and jump of cliffs (without parachute) and die.

I'm glad you specified that the sheep do not have parachutes

I think the farmer should pay a sheep price for the train ride up t0 be on top of the cliffs. Laugh.
Note; I didnt read the article yet. but just from the info you posted the sheep would have to be on the edge of the cliff that wingsuit flyers proxy by or open over. It could be.

Maybe he breed his sheep with lemmings and when they see a wingsuiter jump off the cliff they follow!

Re: [Yorick] Killing sheep
While it's obviously not true (unless his sheep are also frightened into jumping by helicopters, paraglider, etc), the facts that (1) he said that, and (2) it is in the newspaper, ought to tell us something.

While it's obviously not true

Reading the article, it states 10 animals where missing when he went to get them of the mountain, end of season.
The thing 'he said' is that he suspects wingsuits buzzing his terrain to be the culprit. Fact is, 10 sheep where found dead, all in one spot pilled on top of eachother, at the bottom of the cliff (found by one of the local hunters). The fields are (according to the article) at Gitschen, and often buzzed by wingsuit pilots. 'They sound like a gunshot while passing' is the direct quote.

Sheep tend to not leap of cliffs spontaneous, so them being startled is a very likely reason.
Even in normal skydiving, sheep, horses and cows are known to run into ditches, canals and barb-wired fences in a panic, just from being startled by a landing canopy. Plenty of real world examples there.
Seeing how the jet-sound of a wingsuit passing can freak em out shouldn't be a problem.

Though 'its not true' might be your preferred analysis, we've seen more local warnings/requests go out recently to not buzz animals at the various wingsuit lines flown, making me put this in the 'quite likely catagory'

If it is in fact, true, then it ought to tell us even more.

Re: [Yorick] Killing sheep
I don't think sheep are getting buzzed by wingsuiters at Kjerag as they're mainly on top of the cliffs, but I've heard sheep go in there quite a bit anyway.

Re: [MrAW] Killing sheep
A few sheep had ran off the edge of Smellvegen in 2011 , because the hikers bring there f#$ken Dogs and they let them run around like dickheads , chasing the sheep off the edge..

never heard of wingsuiters scaring them

Gitschen is a few hours away from Lauterbrunnen, by the way.

Otherwise, it's feasible that the sheep may have been startled by wingsuiters, but they could have been startled by lots of things. The farmer has no way of knowing what hapened. I remember a few years ago a herd of around 40 cows stampeded off a cliff somewhere in the Bernese Alps because of a thunderstorm. A month or so ago we found a dead sheep while hiking up the Jungfrau. Presumably it'd just slipped and fallen, same way people do sometimes.

Re: [jakee] Killing sheep
This articel from Blick caused again more trouble for the jumping in Switzerland.
I already contacted to police to know if there is an investigation regarding this matter and if we can help.
I also have seen animals getting scared on a flyby but I doubt that this was the case there. The article states that the animals where found where Johnny Strange hit (after exit). For this the animals would have had to climb to the exit which is not very likely. Goats are good climbers but sheep are not so much...

Either this person has never heard a wingsuit or has never heard a gunshot. Or both.

Re: [Yorick] Killing sheep
I've got an alternative explanation - Doug Spink was apparently released early: http://www.lfpress.com/...staken-release-again. Perhaps the sheep were just preferring death to getting ass-raped.

Hey Clem, did you see a redneck balls deep in a lamb while mowing the grass at Gitschen?

There is the same problem in France. The jump Rangers is officialy illegal for a year because a local sheep owner said that we scare his animals and push them to jump cliffs.

Re: [Yorick] Killing sheep
We'll send a few kiwis over, the sheep will get laid and chill the hell out, and everyone will be happy.

Problem's solved mate.
