Article on regulating BASE jumping - Switzerland

Well they didn't get it by dividing the claimed ave annual death rate (6) into the ave annual number of participants (650)...1/108.

IIRC, its based on some research done a few years ago, something like number of BFL #s with a BASE #, divided into the number of BASE numbers issued at that point.

The fact is, life has a 100% death rate. BASE doesn't come close.

It's wrong. If you put a number you can say that more or less one jumper out of 60 to 100 will go in. We have around 6 to 10
Fatalities per year and we guess around 20000 to 25000 jumps been made in Switzerland.

1 out of 60 is an exaggeration,

Using Michi's worst case #s:
10 deaths out of 20,000 jumps
or 1 death out of 2,000 jumps
or .1 death out of 200 jumps
or .05 death out of 100 jumps
