Base Mentor in Australia
Does anyone know of a good base mentor in Australia. I'm keen to get into the sport , have gear and need guidance on the best way to start.

Location: Sydney
Skydiving Experience: 460 jumps, disciplines include CRW and accuracy, flat flying
BASE Experience: Nil.
Motivation: What more can I say love jumping, keen and went out and bought gear for the hell of it.

Anyone with advice, please reply. [:)]

Find the polite, well mannered young gentleman with a metrosexual tendency toward pink.

Don't forget the other guy with crazy hair and tattoos that wrote a book recently. Cool (are we maybe talking about the same guy? :)

That guy lives in Switzerland, so it's unlikely he's available to mentor anyone in Australia.

Maybe you should try the Australian Base forums..

While looking for your polite, gentlemanly and rational mentor you may also consider investing in a good FJC focussing on slider-down jumping.

Two recommendations are Douggs' course and Snake River BASE.

Having done the SRBA course myself I can highly recommend it, and Tom A has an extensive list of anecdotes featuring polite and conservative Australian gentlemen to keep you entertained.

I'm pretty sure you can count on one hand the number of jumpers who undertook a mentorship here in Aus in the last 5 years and of those I'd estimate that 95% of them were close friends of the mentor, me included. In saying that, I'd say your chances of finding a mentor at random are slim and none. Most spots are illegal, tricky and people are generally protective of what's available. A course would be my advice.

You have way to many skydives to start base. . the skydiving gayness maybe irreversible. ..lol

Hi,

Thanks for your comments on my post. I have had a look at the Snake River Base course. Looks like a good deal and worthwhile.

Cheers

Tom speaks Australian too, so you won't need to bring a translator.

He is also exceptionally clean cut, with impeccable grooming.

I also highly recommend doing the Object Avoidance course there as well as the FJC.
Doing that course pretty much saved me from a wall strike within only a few months, best $$$ I ever spent.
