180 ft. bridge
recently found a 180ft. bridge with good landing , would like to know your advise about PCA or static line ?

Re: [iranianjumper] 180 ft. bridge
PCA is better.

higher bridges are also better.

there is one in Auburn California off the foresthill exit of highway 80. It is 700 feet tall. Really a remarkable high span!

PCA > S/L

I agree, provided your bridle holder knows
exactly what they are doing and has practiced!

I've taken a PCA from a tourist at Gerald's span
(486 feet) but at 180 feet I'd want confidence,
so if you have any doubts then a dime's worth
of break cord will do the job really well.

Unpacked! Don't put your life in the hands of break cord or drunken friends!

Are you asking which one is better? As mentioned before that can depend a lot on who is PCAing you. A static line will be more consistent than your buddy who has never done a BASE jump or PCA, however if you have a reliable partner, that can work well too.

Another question you should be asking is whether you are ready to do a 180ft static line. 180ft might not be low for an experienced jumper, but depending on what kind of jumps you have done before, it might be helpful to get more experience with static lines or PCAs. If you are asking these kind of questions, it might be better in terms of progression to try something a little higher first (>200ft).

Re: [idemallie] 180 ft. bridge
My very first jump was 49 metres (160feet) in the middle of the night , Looking back i am glad i had an experienced jumper pca me (Some would say an experienced jumper should not take someone on there first at that height) But its Oz

looking back now i wouild Definately have a backup plan on your pca"er

If your options are PCA or S/L, I would pick S/L. It's not complicated and works right every time.

Re: [iranianjumper] 180 ft. bridge
Good pca is better then a static line especially if your using that break cord that is way to harsh....i won't use it at all...electrical tape works better and u can dial in the strength

Fuckin' handheld. Slight headwind, 48" PC, vertical toss, well-vented canopy, & some good luck. You'll probably survive.

That's what I'd do. The last static line I did was at the Perrine when I first started BASE jumping again. I had only around 30 jumps total and hadn't made a parachute jump in over 2-3 years, including skydives(170total). Hell, I've only done one handheld since then too, Welshmans! Yall act like this shit is so damn hard, its not, except when youre inebriated, forget to check winds, and downwind it into a tree, then it is a little tougher. And to be fair those trees really fuck with my depth perception up there for some reason. :P PCAS and SL are shit. If you got a good TARD technique you can open higer than SL or PCA.

Pack it like a normal pack job, stow lines, when you exit toss that shit UP, and the rest is magic!

I regularly Static line my 180' bridge, Works great. I get about 8 seconds of canopy time.

I have a local 180' S that I jump regularly with sjtravjr. Both of us always SL and use two pieces of break cord as shown in Apex's youtube video demonstrating the differences between static and dynamic forces on break cord. Hell, for a while, I was doing it with a Dagger and I was still getting some solid canopy time.
