GoPro and BASE
GoPro released 4 of 45 videos about basejumping or skydiving on YouTube in the last 14 days. All in all the last four videos nearly reach 4.5 million views - in 14 days. In my opinion this will attract the viewers and they start thinking about getting into base because it seems so easy on the internet. Do you think this popularity in media benefits the base world or do you think this will cause more fatalities over time?

Who likes fat, Herpes Ridden, racist bitches? In my opinion I don't think they are super cool. Do you think an abundance of them will make a party sexier or do you think they are less fun than Russian, independently wealthy, super model, nymphomaniac, helicopter pilots?

Just curious, I'm planning a party and I would hate to come down on the wrong side of this issue... again. Pirate

People are going to shoot me down for this.. but its a mixture of youtube and all the base courses going now....every skydiver now wants to be a base jumper as its just another coarse like skydiving right no big deal....so anyone with 150 skydives can instantly become a base jumper all they need is $$ and go do a coarse with people they dont even know at all....if it wasnt for the courses they would have to actually find someone experienced and willing to teach them but not anymore...

I don't think it's the BASE courses, they have been around a long time and provide much needed info to the uninitiated. After a few years going to bridge day and deciding I wanted to pursue BASE further, I went to a Basic Research BASE course before the turn of the century to make sure I could get proper instruction, because there was no-one to I could learn from in my area, which is why courses are there. Although there are plenty of BASE courses taught by people who should not be teaching BASE, quality instruction should be tops on anyone's list who wants to start BASE in my opinion.

I think people want to get into BASE now more than ever because 1) it's on the edge and being different and edgy is the cool thing to do now; 2) it's no longer considered as dangerous as it once was thanks in large part to early jumpers going out and proving it can be repeated safely, the innovations in gear and a better understanding of the mechanics involved; 3) youtube and smaller gopro like cameras showing the world what an absolute blast it is without showing many of the negative aspects. 4) People are lazy and want an easy looking, high pay off activity that doesn;t require all that pesky learning shit and BASE being unregulated fits that bill nicely for the new age narcissistic rebel.

Yeh im just saying if it wasnt for base courses then there would be way less people base jumping...that's a fact and all im saying ....some people will only ever start base with a course especially these days as we all know most skydivers are pussies anyway and love there rules courses and all that shit....so it sorta is the next step to being fully sik bro....Smile

Im sure im not the only one that thinks this but... I don't think this is true at all. Sure it might make it harder for the people who sit in the corner by themselves on lunch breaks and never venture out for anything, but without courses there would be way more retards running around that dont know how to check symmetry on a pilot chute, before hucking something they've merely heard of or something their uneducated buddy wants to take them too. IMHO if you take the right base course, and youre not all about woohoos, high fives and gopro videos, you'll naturally get out of base jumping if you are not in it for the right reasons.

Most people wont attempt to figure it out...and for the ones that do at least they will have gopro on haha....always be worth a watch......and in all seriousness i think that if u wouldnt do it without a camera on....then u shouldnt do it at all.....i truly believe that some people only do it to get a video

Just video your skydives and show ppl coz to anyone that doesnt know anything about this stuff skydiving is way more extreme coz its like from 14000ft way more hardcore then a 500ft base jump....haha

I think most people video themselves to temember their experiences. Video can make a way better log book for assessing yourself. You essentially get to experience the whole jump again, remember anything you fucked up or may have done that you dont notice in freefall. Like reaching back for risers too soon or going for the whole grab your shoulders and pray technique that should be made fun of. If you have offheadings you can see your reactions. i've fixed multiple problems due to video. As long as they are legal jumps what is the harm in posting them? What sours everyone is that they have to see people out there having fun BASEing it up instead of sitting on the couch, internet, or whatever it is people that dont BASE do.

Not saying not to video...im just saying if u wouldn't still do it without video then dont do it at all.....anyway.....and the worse part about the YouTube videos is they always have to do a selfie video of them over acting and most loud mouth way saying how amazing it was and so spiritual blah blah blah fuck up and turn the camera off after...certain ppl do this but i wont name names lol
