Bridge Day 2015
What happened to all of Trees posts about bridge day? Seems like they have disappeared. Wasn't July 1 the start of registration? Isn't he promoting it anymore?

I registered, but see no group information as in previous years. How is jump order determined?

I hope anyone who is planning on going thoroughly reads the Contract you will be signing to be Employed for this job. This is a legally binding contract and you better be sure you know what every word means.

http://officialbridgeday.com/...-and-disclosure1.pdf

Usually when someone is employed by a company they get paid and don't have to pay for the job. This shit is backwards.

You are basically giving them full authority to gather and use ANY and ALL information on you from ANY source, public or private(this includes your email and facebook page and all you friends and families FB pages as well). You are also giving them the right to use a copy of the authorization to gather information for as many times as they want to investigate you. The Contract does not disclose who the Company will share your information with and what they will do with it after they use it.

It's right in the Contract.

... " I authorize the following agencies and entities to disclose... ALL information about or concerning me, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO... ALL other private and public sector repositories of information... and any other person, organization or agency with any information about or concerning me."

Basically saying that any agency, public or private, that has any information on you can be collected and used.

Re: [base570] Bridge Day 2015
I am a bit shocked at the lack of information from the Bridge Day Commission regarding BD 2015. How are hotel rooms handed out? Schedule of events? Meeting times? Training courses? Refund policy? PRIVACY POLICY?

Keep in mind the Chamber of Commerce (aka. Bridge Day Commission) is the keeper of all your personal information now. How will they protect it? Will they share it? Will they give the jumper list to every law enforcement, insurance investigator, or ex-wife that asks for it?

You no longer have a BASE jumper (me) to protect your privacy and fight for our sport.

I know the BD Commission has big shoes to fill, but properly communicating the basic details of the event isn't that hard. Tree had a detailed website up and running, but the BD Commission wanted everything to go through their site (so I'm told). Sounds like there is trouble in paradise.

I'll go only if we can get everyone to where "point break" ex presidents masks.

In reply to:
Pack your intended BASE canopy into a skydiving rig and make as many jumps as you can. Try to hit dead center in the peas, and try it cross wind and down wind, because you may have to land that way in the gorge.

In reply to:
Q. How many jumps do I need?
A. You must have made 50 skydives to jump.

Really? You're going to send people with 50 skydives off that bridge? Do you really expect that they'll have executed the recommended pre-work in the 25 jumps between their A license and your minimum requirements?

As much as I wanted to let my Bridge Day frustration go...this is some nonsense right here. Wasn't it a 200 skydive minimum requirement before? Why lower it?

Re: [bluhdow] Bridge Day 2015
And too add to this...anyone who was upset with the new-school, mentorless shortcut mentality...this should make your head explode.

How many people are going to buy gear after 50 skydives, do their "FJC" at Bridge Day, and then start hucking your local spots?

Re: [bluhdow] Bridge Day 2015
It was a 100 jump minimum under my team. It's now 50.

Thanks for the links, which offer more info. When you hover over the "base information" dropdown, you actually have to click on the base information header. Completely non-intuitive.

I love the fact they advertise that finger scans are FREE! We all love FREE stuff.

Despite all the crap that went down with the new BASE advisers and the restructuring, I eventually decided to support Tree and his team. We've traded emails and phone calls from time to time. I love Bridge Day and would like to jump again in the future. But I'm seeing signs from the BD Commission that it will be total chaos and a waste of my time to attend this year.

Re: [base570] Bridge Day 2015
The finger scan sounds better than signing an employment document with some corporation that allows them to look into practically any facet of my life anytime they want. This seems a little like the TSA's solution to complaints that the body scans are too invasive. If you don't want to step through a body scanner then just let this TSA agent feel you all over.

I've been to and participated in other public events that involved thousands of people and bridge day is the only one where I had to go through a background check or a finger scan. I don't see how scanning the fingers of BASE jumpers or doing background checks will increase security in any way. If they took away the background checks completely, what threats would they open themselves up to? What threat does someone jumping with a warrant out or some disqualifying criminal record pose to bridge day security? Do terrorist typically have criminal records or warrants prior to enacting their plot?

I read that as an attempt to get back to the "historical roots" of Bridge Day.

In the pre-Jason Bell days, it was basically a circus. You could show up with an ancient skydiving rig with a bed sheet in the pack tray and as long as it had a 42" PC and a 9' bridle, you were good to go.

Jason did a lot of good work at Bridge Day, and the safety standards that newer jumpers take for granted are part of his work.

Re: [TomAiello] Bridge Day 2015
Ah yes, historical roots. On that note I plan to jump a Stilleto 135 I just found on DZ.com for $500. That should be cool, right guys? Ill wear a frap hat to make sure it's legit.

I'm curious to know who decided to lower these safety standards. Tree? The BDC?

If finger scans and rectal probes are there for safety purposes, then WTF is going on with jumper training standards? Is the bridge being attacked by terrorists a more probable safety issue than people with no experience hooking themselves into the beach?
Shortcut
Re: [bluhdow] Bridge Day 2015
Its pretty simple. Register: Go jump the NRGB. Don't register: Do something else. Jump, have fun, don't jump, whatever. The people who have registered won't be thinking about those who didn't when they are making their jumps and laughing and drinking afterwards.

Your Stilleto isn't a 7 cell square, which is the only canopy requirement. (would you freefall it if I would let you?) If you can do a better job putting jumpers in a line and then sending them off the bridge, your in luck, the job will be open next year!
Shortcut
Re: [Treejumps] Bridge Day 2015
Good point. I'll jump my Spectre 135 instead.

Not that you're obligated to, but you didn't answer my question. Whose decision was it to lower the skydive requirement to 50 jumps? And how do you feel that improves the safety standards of BD?

Re: [Treejumps] Bridge Day 2015
Was the prerequisite number of jumps lowered to boost attendance?
