Re: [sjtravjr] Coming to Twin Falls
you can fly to Boise, find someone either passing through heading to the bridge and split some gas money or hitchhike to twin, and then stay with Kathy the river angel. She would love if you gave her what you could in donation form for the bed, but Im sure people have stayed there for free before. Just be polite and not a complete dirt bag and maybe offer to drive the boat for a day or something. Good luck, Dont die.

Does anyone know Gerald's contact number now? I've moved away from twin for a bit and have been out of touch. He needs to hear how big of a pussy he is in case nobody else is telling him. Hit me up Gerry, I have a voicemail now so leave a message so I know it's not some random number calling about a going on a cruise, wtf?

It was kind of a dumb question to begin with, no offense. It's the Perrine. There's going to be people there that you can jump with and drink beer with. There's no need to plan ahead.

I'll censor this one for you Tom :P

Alright dumb question , just trying to link up before I get there. Usually like to ask some questions before I go jumping off shit.

- Gerald I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. :( I don't know you personally and have heard nothing but bad things about you. You don't have to be poopy about it.

What happens if you get line twists and land on the other side of the river when there isn't a boat!!!!!!!!!!!And its winter time, hypothermia is setting in. You can't use your phone cause you just hooked it into the water. Nobody else is around. And its getting dark. Prepare for the worst!

Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
That's a shitty scenario , hopefully I plan accordingly if I ever go in the winter. Thanks for the heads up man

Crank up your chainsaw and cuddle it to stay warm. That's why you should always jump with a chainsaw

Re: [nickfrey] Perrine Bridge
Ya, I would not recommend that. At least I didn't get hung up on the bridge. I would have had to cutaway to save myself the embarrassment. You can say what you will but that jump probably saved my dumb ass actually.

I can barely afford one canopy. Not the type of person to commit such a horrendous act of burning a canopy. I can think of a lot better things to burn though.

No flaming canopies but he did say he was going to jump off the rail because everybody on the youtubes does it.

Re: [blkhwkmech89] Perrine Bridge
The rail is a better exit. You have to climb over it anyway so whats the difference? Thats the reason i jump from the rail. And nobody cares anymore. Why do you seem to care so much? Just need someone to make yourself feel better? Well im your huckleberry.
Shortcut
Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
I don't care either. Just a poor attempt at making a funny. Reading the comments on here sometimes, you'd think that going off the rail warrants a good tar and feather. Valid point though, what's the difference between climbing over it and jumping from it? Not my bridge though.
Shortcut
Re: [blkhwkmech89] Perrine Bridge
I see, i dont recall saying anything about railing because of youtube. I may have said everyone does it, but thats from first hand eyewitness experience being there and jumping. Its everyones bridge, paid for by taxes on the people.

Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
You didn't. Just referencing other threads and maybe some stuff on Facebook. The locals seem to get pretty angry sometimes. I don't care. I just wanna jump and drink excessively. No rules against that.

I think the issue originated from someone in the Idaho DOT having a problem with it. From my understanding they wanted to make it illegal, but had no enforcement mechanism. To my knowledge, no laws were passed in state legislature and the local law enforcement didn't make any attempts to stop it.

The reasoning behind not standing on the rail is that it will distract motorists and cause accidents (which can cause some problems because the bridge is highly trafficked). I have never stood on the rail for this reason.

Coincidentally, I believe I caused an accident there a few weeks ago. As I was climbing over with a TARD in my hand, a car slammed into the back of an SUV. I can only assume that the SUV hit its brakes in a WTF? moment, causing the accident.

blkhwkmech89 wrote:

I know several prominent locals who do it regularly. However, I don't think it is any less reason not to do it.

Re: [idemallie] Perrine Bridge
You can see the jumpers when you are driving across the bridge regardless of if they are standing on the rail or not so i never bought that as an excuse. Bad drivers cause accidents. There could be a mermaid riding a unicorn on the side of the road, it doesnt mean that terrible drivers get to use that as an excuse when they get into an accident.

In reply to:

Once the jumper is over the rail and waiting to jump/getting ready/counting down, wuffo vehicle drivers don't know that person is on the other side of the rail. They think all the pedestrians are on the footpath. It's pretty obvious what they are going to do if they are standing on the rail getting ready/counting down.

Edited to add "wuffo".

Re: [MBA-FRANK] Perrine Bridge
Maybe if they are blind. Trust me I drive over the bridge quite a bit when jumpers are on the bridge. It's pretty easy to tell which side of the rail they are on, if the have helmets, parachutes, ect. The point is they should be focused on the road not people on the other side of a barrier. They should outlaw girls with big tits walking across the bridge, because that is a distraction to motorists as well. Luckily I'm good at driving so I can drive, watch jumpers, and yell things like "put that thing in your container pussy!"
Shortcut
Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
Night is a different story though, harder to tell what the hell is going on as a motorist on the bridge. But, as a jumper I've had the cops show up multiple times after night jumps because motorists call in suicides, and not necessarily from jumping on the rail. That's why I generally wait until breaks in traffic at night now. But, every time I've spoken with a cop at night they are always just thankful for me being able to tell them I was the one who jumped and no one else is down there so they don't have to waste any more time figuring out what is up. They don't say anything like" hey, was that you climbing on the rail? That is illegal, you are under arrest." They have plenty of tweakers they have to deal with in Twin Falls, BASE jumpers climbing on a rail before they jump is the last of their worries. If the city openly comes out and says, stop jumping on the rail, then we will obviously make that change, but they haven't and don't care.
Shortcut
Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
Also worth mentioning, I've had a cop show up before I was going to do a night jump because he saw me sitting in my truck with my lights on. I explained to him I was about to make a jump and asked if he'd like to watch. I jumped from the rail, with him watching and he didn't care so I think it is time to put the whole no jumping from the rail thing to bed. I think the only people who impose that are jumpers who don't have enough coordination to stand on the rail so they need to stroke their egos by trying to stop other jumpers.

Exactly! Rubbernecking causes more shit than anything else. One wreck somehow usually turns into four.

Re: [Lucid] Perrine Bridge
You are correct that local Twin Falls police haven't had a problem with it (AFAIK). I don't think it is illegal in any sense of the word. However, I think there is a lot more bureaucratic complexity here than you are acknowledging or aware of.

Furthermore, I don't think anyone wants to make it illegal. There aren't any jumpers trying to stop you from going off the rail. It's a personal decision that you get to make on your own.

I agree that the responsibility for vehicles on the road lies with the driver. I disagree that standing on the rail doesn't distract motorists more. You are more prominent on the object, easier to see, and draw more attention. Regardless of the driver's responsibility, I think jumpers collectively have the ability to reduce the number of accidents by not standing on the rail. Because of this, I choose to not stand on the rail unless I have a specific reason to (which I haven't yet). I don't believe I'm a better or worse person for that, it's just a personal decision that I choose to make. You get to make your own decisions too, and that's fine with me.

Also, I'm not totally convinced you have better balance than me because you go off the rail. I saw a guy do it for his 20th jump, and he basically fell off and yelled "woo hoo". It looked pretty easy to me.

Re: [idemallie] Perrine Bridge
I'm aware that the only problem with jumping off the rail was stated years ago by some guy for Idaho department of transportation. Since then it has become a non issue. Apex is the only place where you can see record of this statement.
It's just an example of people trying to regulate something which does not need regulating. Why are we having this stupid conversation then? I say it's fine to go off the rail, you say it's not.
I agree BASE jumpers distract motorists on the bridge, whether they are standing on the rail or not, the degree of the distraction is something I'm not an expert on so I will yield to your superiority on the subject of levels of distraction.
I don't just stand on the rail to yell woohoo like a tool, there is a purpose. My purpose is to get a better exit for aerials, standing upright is way better than being pitched forward with your arms locked behind you grasping the rail.
It is very easy, that was a joke. If you're not convinced I guess I'll have to think of a better way to prove how good my balance is, would you believe me if I said I was a ninja?

I'm still not aware of anyone trying to regulate it. No jumpers are actively pursuing this.

Re: [idemallie] Perrine Bridge
It appears I was just confused that people didn't want others to go off the rail because they saw it as a potential access issue. Glad that's not the case.

Well I think it is important to realize that it was a potential access issue. It's my understanding that Highway Board made a request that jumpers not do it, but that was over a decade ago.

I do not think any jumpers currently see it as an access issue. I certainly don't. But I think it's important for people to be aware of what has happened in the past for context.

Re: [idemallie] Perrine Bridge
I saw somebody catching some shit about it not long ago. I wasn't sure if he was being serious or if it was just because the jumper in question (it rhymes with Schmerald) was stirring up all sorts of shit on Facebook about some local nylon specialist's pilot chutes being toxic clones. So maybe they were just giving him some shit. No clue.

Good point Bealio. Will do that in the future. Just so use to not calling them during the day. Hope they enjoy my calls at late/early hours. Sheriff and police are generally the last people i think about when making a BASE jump, but it will help them and eliminate any negative view towards us as jumpers.
